Do car salesman give better deals on vehicle purchases on the last day of the month? I've heard that since they work on commission that they want to get as many sales in before the month closes out.

Also, does this apply to used cars?

The reason you can bargain with the dealer at the end of the month is because they need to reach a certain quota.

My Dad is a car salesman. If they don't reach their quota, they don't get a big bonus. If they go over their quota, they get a bigger bonus.

So, at the end of the month, when they really need to sell some cars, if you don't agree to a certain price, and start to walk out, they will most likely give you that price. Given the fact that your price request is not outrageous!

Good luck.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that it is the whole dealership itself that needs to reach a quota, not single car salesman. If that was the case, then if you got the best salesman, you won't get your price. But that isn't the case, so don't worry!

at the end of the month at the end of the yr for that car (say the new ones come out in Jul, Aug, Sept. buy this yrs at that time.)
Jan, Feb and Mar are the slowest times in auto sales...also to get the REAL price on the car, read Consumer Reports ( we do and buy all our cars at less than $100. over sticker. and Don't get the extras, coatings, pin striping, dealer MARK UP'S...extended waranty's)

Actaully, if you wait until the end of tax season (which you probably can't)you will get a car at a verry reasonable price. Prices are jacked up on almost everything during the tax season.

That's a myth. Most sales personal are paid on a percentage of the gross profit of the deal. Actually, quotas are very rare and they usually do not reflect on the sales persons pay-cheque.

its true they do get part of their pay off commission, but they also get a regular check ,just in case they don't make commission, they are given a certain amount each week,so really any time is a good time to buy,its true that they like making a sell, but they can survive without making one also, good luck i hope this help,s.

It's not just comissions. Dealers receive incentives (money) to sell certain levels of product. If they are near the next level of incentive, they will often apply "dealer money" to the sale. I
