Hey everyone, I'm a 17 year old guy in the market for a cheap car. Must be a manual and rwd. Right now I'm driving my parent's 1998 Toyota 4 Runner (5 speed)... it's an AMAZING vehicle. Yes, it can be switched to just rear wheel drive. I don't think I'll ever be able to give up my love for rear wheel drive paired with a manual transmission. Only problem with the 4 Runner is that I don't like SUVs... they're way too heavy and expensive and eat gas like crazy.

So, now I'm in the market for something nible, cue a car. Must be manual and must have rear wheel drive. Finding a manual isn't too hard in the used car market... but finding a rear wheel drive car is quite tough nowadays, even in used cars.

So, which models/year?

Well it depends on if you want an american car which i wouldnt recommend ESPECIALLY not a mustang. Trust me you don't want the car everyone and theri mom has when their cobra model gets spanked by camaro SS all the time. If you want american def go chevy camaro SS or Z 28 or a pntiac trans am WS6 or firehawk and show all the mustangs what a REAL car looks like.

Now if you want a non american rear wheel drive car definently try a mazda Rx-7 years range from 1986 - 1995. the 3rd gen (93-95) are especially sexy but if you need an older one try and the one called the turbo 2. Also try an 89-97 240sx, a drifters best friend but make sure to get the SE version. Also the 300ZX Twin turbo is real nice. Also the 1986- 1995 toyota MR2 are a good choise but they are a 2 seater. Also the older gen supras (below 1993) but make sure its turbo. They also have some nice rwd beamers so if non of these strike your fancy you might watn something like that.

Cheap Rwd Cars

finding a rwd car is difficult? pretty much every american performance car made in the last 20 years has been RWD, and all depreciate so fast theyre cheap. Granted, i dont like most of them, but still they fit the bill.

and it all depends on what you like. go out and test drive some cars. Go to some used car dealers, and ask for something inexpensive and RWD and manual. test drive said car. If you like it, put it down on the list. if you dont, cross it off. Repeat. once you have a list of cars you liked, post on here and ask if theyre decent cars. Cross off the ones that arent. When youre left with a few, pick which one you want. then go buy from a private seller (used car dealerships are sketchy). Ta da!

if you want to ask about the quality of some cars, or more exact suggestions, email me at phanofmuzik@gmail.com.

Stereotypes aside, prob the best, most fun cheap RWD manual car you can find will be a madza miata. Theyre absolutely brilliant cars. I dont care if theyre "gay" or hairdresser cars, theyre one of the best traditional sportscars ever made. Theyre reliable, inexpensive, cheap on gas, awesomely fun, not too dangerous (ie: fast, youre a young driver), handle VERY well, are trackable, cheap to fix, cheap to insure, and are overall great cars.

Pick ups are typically rear wheel. Cars are typically front wheel nowadays unless you get a comaro or a mustang. Be prepared to get an old ford ranger or chevy s-10 or comaro if you want a cheap RWD....

see if you can find a late 70's or early 80's Toyota Celica,,these were great little sporty cars in their day.
Good on gas too.

Bud if you think a 4Runner is amazing you haven't even driven a great SUV. The Ford/Mercury Explorer/Mountaineer V8 of 98'-01' was an amazing SUV. I own one and is faster and handles better than just about every FWD car on the road and alot of RWD. For cheap and reliable look into a Ford Mustang. That is the best possible option that comes to mind. Really cheap, lots of replacement and aftermarket parts. You can do whatever you want to it. Gas mileage won't be much better than you get with the 4Runner.
