When you transfer the "cherished" number from your car, the DVLA will probably (but they cannot guarantee this) reinstate the original number. They did on my last car.

The easiest way to sell your cherished number is through a large agency that is a member of the Cherished Numbers Dealers' Association (CNDA, see http://www.cnda.co.uk/ ), but they will take a significant commission (ask for a quote).
Alternatively, you could advertise it privately in the relevant press (e.g. Autocar, Autotrader, etc.) but you'll have to handle all the DVLA paperwork yourself (not difficult).
The DVLA will charge £80 for the transfer - usually payable by the buyer.

you cant get back the original plates and you cant sell the ones you have. you can only get new ones. go to the tag registration office have you been there yet? you should have because that's how you register it in your name. if you haven't you are driving illegal

apply to DVLA the original IndexPlate is always allocated to your vehicle so should be a simple way to get it reinstated
