There are four vehicles which do what you say. I'm not sure which one you're thinking of, so I'll give you a brief description of them.
Chevrolet Avalanche - Produced since 2002, with redesign for 2007. It's based off of the Chevrolet Suburban, with which it shares its engines, though the styling is closer to that of the Chevrolet Silverado. It's a crew cab truck in which the back seats fold flat on the floor, the rear (far back) window will roll down into the rear part of the cab, and the back of the cab folds forward to create an 8-foot bed.
Cadillac Escalade EXT - Same as Chevrolet Avalanche, only it comes as All-Wheel Drive instead of true 4-Wheel Drive and is much more luxurious.
Subaru Baja - Based off of Subaru Legacy. Does the same exact thing as the Chevrolet and Cadillac, but is much smaller vehicle. Bed extends from about 4 feet to 6.5 feet.
GMC Envoy XUV - A 4-Door SUV with a plastic rear cargo area which can be hosed out at the local powerwash for hauling stuff you'd normally haul in a truck. The rear window rolls down into the tailgate and the rearmost section of the roof rolls forward to create a semi-open "bed" in the back for hauling tall gear such as entertainment centers.
That's the basic rundown. There are other vehicles (namely crew cab trucks) that will perform both functions as people-carrier and cargo-hauler, but these four vehicles actually "transform" from one to the other.
If you need any more questions, please feel free to ask.

I believe that you may be referencing one of two Chevrolet vehicles. Chevrolet showed how you could open/close the back windshield to make the Avalanche a great truck. Closing the back window, turned in back into a extended cab truck.
There was also another SUV/truck whichI can't remember the name of. This was also another Chevrolet. It might have been the first Envoy models.

Yep, it's the Chevy Avalanche, what they referred to as a "SUT", Sport Utility Truck.
I've got one, have "transformed" it 2 times in 4 years, but love the truck. Drives like a Cadillac, low maintenance, the only complaint I have is the back covers to the bed fade.
Cadillac has a version as well.

There was a car that you could pull out a tent out of the rear door and it would be great for camping. I think it was some kind of Toyota. Is that the one you're refering to?
