I am an owner of a 2005 cobalt. It has been a very good car. I haven't had any problems with it. I bought it brand new in August '05 and already put 45,000 miles on it. It has been a really good car. I have bad luck with accidents to. It has been crashed 5 times (none of which my fault) and it has held up very well. Minimal damage even when a SUV hit the side of it. It is like a small tank. I would recommend it for anyone. If it is for a teenager though, go with the automatic. I have the 5 speed manual, and the power is quite surprising. The automatics are not capable of taking off as fast though. I get anywhere between 29-33 mpg. That is sitting in stop and go traffic everyday (Houston, TX) for one hour each way to work and home. I have been very impressed. I hope this helps with your decision.

If the teenager is responsible, i believe so. it is quick, but not a racer, stay away from SS option, too fast for most teenagers, unless they have been through a defensive driving course.
Good looking for the kid and reliable for the adults.
Another option may be the ford focus or kia spectra.
Scion although considered "cool", are too "plastic-y"
the suspensions are weak and not enough horsepower to get out of a jam. if you have a bit more money look into the Pontiac Vibe or Toyota Matrix. But yes, Cobalt is a good looking well performing car.
* Avoid vehicles that encourage reckless driving. Avoid choosing vehicles with a performance image [that is] likely to encourage speeding. Choosing a vehicle with a more sedate image reduces the chances your teen will be in a speed-related crash;
* Don't let your teen drive an unstable vehicle. Sport-utility vehicles, especially the smaller ones, are inherently less stable than cars because of their higher centers of gravity;
* Even if your teenager drives a car with a sedate image, chances are still high that sooner or later he or she will be in a wreck. This is why it's also important to pick a vehicle that offers good crash protection;
* Don't let your teen drive too small a vehicle;
* Most of today's cars are better designed for crash protection than cars of 6 to 10 years of age. For example, a newer midsize car with airbags would be a better choice than an older, larger car without airbags.

well i just got a 2007 colbalt and it goes around 140 mph and will take the average car on the line , it can corner at high speeds this is the higer priced colbalt so you get what you pay for , is excellent on gas untill the turbo kicks in . so for a teenage driver is good till he gets his first ticket

Is the "teenage driver" paying for the car?
If NO.. then it's a great car! Not very expensive and it won't drain your (parent) pocket!
Think money! It's a new car and as reliable as whatever else that is new.

Yes but they must have supercharger as they are a little slow on takeoff.
