I am going to come into a small inheritance. I have had no car for eight years as I am on a fixed income and couln't afford to replace my car when it "died." I was thinking Toyota Corolla because of dependability and because my last car was a Celica and I loved it. Does anyone have any idea what I couldd buy for approximately &5,000. to $6,000.?

I need it as a "station car" that will take me to and from my local commuter train station 2 miles from my house. It will also be used to drive my wife to and from her job one day a week (about 35 miles total) and for local errands. What's reliable and cheap? I don't need any frills.

What is the problem with this car?

so anyhow, i am 16 and am hopeful about graduating early with a $30,000/yr scholarship (long story short...a good private school specializing in early admittance and giving out generous scholarships)

my family is by no means rich, but we are living quite comfortably, so my parents agreed that even if i only get a partial scholarship, they will buy me a car. as i said, we're not rolling in the dough, so i can't get a Lexus or BMW or whatever, and it will probably be second-hand. we're talking $10,000-$15,000 secondhand. maybe $8,000 if my dad gets crabby. lol

anyhow, i want to make a good decision, and i'm toying with the ideas of either a Civic or a Jetta. i've heard that the Civic has a better track record (Consumer Reports gives the Jetta a below-avg. rating and the Civic the max. rating) but the Jetta def. wins styling points over the Civic; plus, my mom's friend has had a Jetta for like 6 years & it's fine.

anyhow, i'm just looking for advice, as this is my first car. thanks!

I'm unable to afford a new/newer used car right now. I don't have a permanent full time job, not very much money in the bank, and my 91 Honda Accord is starting to give out on me. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks so much!

A car damage estimator told me that part of my car had prior damage already to it and asked if I new about it and I said it was not told to me by the dealer (I had the car only 2 months). He told me they might just deny knowing about it. If I'd known I would have asked for a lower price on the car, especially since it's value is depreciated by prior damage, or a different car all together. I was given a carfax history on the car but it said no problems were found. I want to know who I contact about this and what are my rights in renegotiating a price or being given a car with no prior damage. Even if the dealer didn't know, isn't ignorance not an excuse especially if I payed for a thorough inspection right before I was given the car from the dealer...and the estimator noticed the prior repair work right away?

I had a 2005 Grand Prix and traded it in for a 2006 300 c, the small dealership we bought it from told us that he would like to be paid for the new car within 5 business days, we did, but he never paid our old car off which he bought from us for 11,800.00 now we are late on a payment for the old car which we no longer have and it's making our credit look bad. This trade in and new car purchase took place almost 20 days ago, what's the deal? Oh and he still hasn't sent us the title so we can register it here in the state we live in, and our bank that we got our loan through is wondering wear the title is. what do you think is going on?

Been out of college for a year now and needed a newer car. Just spent 12k on a Corolla (half down, half financed) and am both anxious and paranoid about because 1) it's the biggest purchase of my life so far, and 2) because my last car was such a junker, i have grown untrustworthy of cars and can't help but think this car will be no different even though it is Toyota certified and SHOULD be in great condition.

Can anyone else relate to my emotional rollercoaster?

2 years ago I bought a 1999 dodge neon financed with Carfinco and was thrilled until I was having problems with it constantly..leaking lower rad hose, new breaks and calipers, tranny problems and a muffler issue. All this was a pain but I had warranty so it didn't bother me too much. I kept up with my oil changes and routine maitenence to keep my warranty until one day about a year ago Walmart made a huge mistake and stripped the drain plug ultimately resulting in a blown motor. They did provide me with a rental and replaced my motor with a 90 day warranty! Compared to my 5 year! But I was so very angry at the time I just settled with it being overwith(Stupid.. I know). Since then though, the timing has gone twice the crankshaft went. I have replaced the motor instead of fixing the crank and now the valves are bent in this one so I need a new head! I just want to be rid of this money sucking piece! $305/mnth plus insurance and all this maintence with 3 kids. HELP!

I am 24, finished school, paid off loans, etc, I've always loved cars ever since I was a kid, now it's time to buy my first car, and hopefully something special.

I've narrowed it down to 3 cars, each has pluses and negatives on them. I am having trouble deciding, it's coming down to what other people think of the cars, especially girls. I am not buying off ebay, but using their pics help
