I'm unable to afford a new/newer used car right now. I don't have a permanent full time job, not very much money in the bank, and my 91 Honda Accord is starting to give out on me. Any advice on what I should do? Thanks so much!

"Give out" is rather vague. You didn't say what was wrong with your car.

An accountant once told me that the cheapest there is is the one you're driving now.

The trick is to find an honest mechanic.

I drive a '66 Chevy Nova. It's got over 250,000 on just this engine, and it's been in the car for 15 years.

The '91 Honda is a fine car. Unless you've taken poor care of it and neglected all maintenance altogether, that's a good car to keep in running condition. The '89 wouldn't be a good choice, but by '91 they did away with the complicated carburetor and you have a car worth keeping.

Need advice? Get chummy with a mechanic.

I would concentrate on taking very good care of your current vehicle. This means all scheduled maintenance. When you say "Giving out on me" you didn't say what kind of problems it is beginning to exhibit.

There's really not much you can do at this point if you can't afford a newer car.

What is happening with your Honda? How many miles are on it? Is it body or power train/engine related? Take it to a mechanic you trust and get a written estimate on what it needs. Get it checked first then we can go from there. if you needed to replace your accord how much money would you spend?
