so anyhow, i am 16 and am hopeful about graduating early with a $30,000/yr scholarship (long story short...a good private school specializing in early admittance and giving out generous scholarships)

my family is by no means rich, but we are living quite comfortably, so my parents agreed that even if i only get a partial scholarship, they will buy me a car. as i said, we're not rolling in the dough, so i can't get a Lexus or BMW or whatever, and it will probably be second-hand. we're talking $10,000-$15,000 secondhand. maybe $8,000 if my dad gets crabby. lol

anyhow, i want to make a good decision, and i'm toying with the ideas of either a Civic or a Jetta. i've heard that the Civic has a better track record (Consumer Reports gives the Jetta a below-avg. rating and the Civic the max. rating) but the Jetta def. wins styling points over the Civic; plus, my mom's friend has had a Jetta for like 6 years & it's fine.

anyhow, i'm just looking for advice, as this is my first car. thanks!

so maybe i'm looking too classy...my dad does own a 1997 escort; it looks like new (the design isn't as unattractive as other older cars, either) it's got 90,000+ miles, and it still runs @ 35mpg (manual).

maybe i should consider that.
(but...a sunroof! lol)

well i found an rx330 for around $15,000 in the classifieds. '99. for the record. but it would probably be nasty. haha, but the mileage wasn't too bad.

The Civic is ABSOLUTELY the best choice, and this is FACT, not opinion.

First off,you cant get a lexus RX330,its way too expensive so dont even think about it.You want a nice car for a low price(extreamly hard to come by) and if i were you i would go with the jetta;.

When your Honda, or Jetta does finally break down it will cost a lot more than it would if you bought an American car. Also the base prices of them will be a lot more expensive. I think you should go with a Ford escort, Chevy cobalt or a dodge neon. They would make good first cars if you take care of them and the gas mileage would be good as well.

Well, don't waste your time and money looking for a lexus, at that price it would be nasty. But you could almost get a new civic for that price. My suggestion for a used car would be a toyota. Honda's can be mechanically sound for 300,000 miles, but their interiors are usually ruined after a few years. Toyota seems to build a little better quality.

i'd go with a subaru, they're some of the best cars hell the WRX STI is a cheap ferrari, or the nissan altima is good the nissan sentra is good also i fell that nissan has gone down hill but i still think they are damn nice cars, you could get a lexus rx but i would not recommend that you would most likly get the first model and that bad, you could get the Toyota 4Runner but if it is a used car your getting get it from a dealer we sold a car to someone of the street and that car had some problems so DONT BUY FROM SOMEONE ON THE STREET
so here it is:
Subaru- Legacy or Impreza WRX STI
Nissan- Altima or Sentra (you could get that new)
Toyota- 4Runner or scion (new)
