Hi. There is an old saying that goes; "Don't buy a station wagon if you don't need one. " Can anyone tell me if this is true and why? I'm looking for a used car now. (Something cheap for $400 to $800 or so to get me around for one year. Thanks, Westbound.

my girlfriend is buying me a ute in a couple of weeks to replace my 1992 Ford Laser and I'm wondering what one out of the utes listed above you would buy and why, they must be the 4X4 versions as whatever I get WILL be used off road on a semi regular basis and dual cab would be prefered...

thanks all,

Mitch

I sold a car on ebay, accepted the deposit from paypal, but due to family circumstances, I cant sell the car. I contacted the person and told them I will refund the deposit promptly (waiting for it to hit my account so I can send it right back). The buyer already purchased plane tickets (we never discussed an exact day that she would come up and pick the car). Now she wants me to pay for the tickets. Is it my responsibility to do this?

We did about 4000 miles/year in a horrible little Fiat. A more sensible car would be more useful for work so would do more miles (less hiring).

Mrs Eep wants an automatic gearbox, and a car the size of an atom. I want a massive estate with a stickshift to move stuff around with. Only buying one car, so a compromise is required. We don't want to keep fixing it and we do want low fuel bills.

Absolute straining screaching maximum spend of £5000.

Vauxhalls and Fiats are banned (yeugh)

What should we buy? Help please!

I was wondering that when you try to trade in your car and they check the mileage, do they look at the odometer or try something else. B/c if it is only the odometer then you could just turn it back to a reasonable mileage and they would never know, right? I mean, some people turn their's back all the time. If they don't go by the odometer then what do they use?

Without the benefit of a mechanic, what items can I inspect visually under the hood to figure out if the car is a lemmon? And on the test drive, what's the best way to put the car through its paces?

I have found a pretty nice used car, but the cigarette odor inside, is terrible.
Anybody know if the residual smoke odor can be eliminated? This is the only thing that I have reservations about.

Good car? Or bad idea? Give me some help here guys. It's a 2002, wagon. In good shape, lots of miles though. Price is OK. A mechanic told me that a Taurus is not a good car. So now I don't know what to do.
