the tata safari is a car that u dont see much on the roads
the average that the vehicle gives IS JUST NOT GOOD we hav a safari at home and get an avg of 10-15 kmpl only that too wid very good driving habits. and 2 years after purchasing the vehicle it does not have the same performance as before
also tata gives out cheap spares but the no. of times that u need to get the spares changed brings the cost equal to the same level as others
and problems of engine seizures are very common for tata cars
i wud suggest the mahindra scorpio since it is a much better vehicle than the safari

I have driven it once before. It is extremely sluggish in comparison to the new ones which have a Common Rail engine. But the suspension used to be quite good those days, even though they used to cause some roll.
Dont expect a great average and make sure you take it to a mechanic to check the engine and turbocharger. Diesels typically start degrading after 3~4 years or 40K km
