I have a 1998 oldsmobile Achieva LS and the valves are beginning to tick. The mileage on my car is 89,000 the oil is changed every 2,000 to 2,500 miles. I put one quart of synthetic oil to 4 quarts of high mileage oil. My monthly mileage for my job is 1,400 per month. So is there any thing I can do to prolong the use of this car.

I just cleaned off the battery terminal on my car battery (it had some blue-green buildup on the positive terminal), and now i'm left with a container of that stuff mixed with baking soda/water. Is there a proper disposal procedure for that stuff?

So about 3 months ago, i went to canadian tire and did a lot of services as in oil change, transmisiion fluid change, etc etc and ofcourse, differential fluid change.

4 Days ago, the rear tires kept locking as i would turn and make screeching noises. I goto canadian tire and ask them to take a look...the lady came back to me and asked "Sir, have u recently changed ur differential fluid?" and i said that i dont remember....and then she said "maybe the last place u changed ur differential fluid put in the wrong oil and is causing this, but we dont know exactly whats wrong unless we open it up"

So they opened it up and turns out the gears are broken and metal pieces ar everywhere. Apparently, the POSI-CARRIER exploded and the metal pieces when between the gears and broke them.

Keep in mind candian tire had replaced the differential oil about 3 months back. the car has 98,000 kms. My question is, could putting the wrong oil gradually destroy the differential?

I got the problems down to three things, either the FUEL PUMP, the ALTERNATOR, or the BATTERY...

Help me figure which is probally the right one to fix first.

I was driving fine, then it ran rough, then the driving power would weaken. THEN it died - All happened in less than a minute when the truck ran rough. The electrical accessories died a second before the truck died. A few seconds after it died I started it back up just fine and drove it home smooth - This happened 2 days ago. Yesterday I started it, but it would stall, then it would start, but run rough, then die a couple seconds later.

So... it starts so I don't think its the battery, but it dies so it might be the alternator. BUT when all this first happened, it felt like the fuel pump died thats why it lost power and shut off. But the accessories died before the engine did.
SO, NOW, I'M CONFUSED.

Help me figure which it is. Thanks
I will run tests to see if my lights and horn work, etc. but im lazy :)

I am considering buying an used Honda Accord and I am wondering whether I should buy a 2005 or later model that comes standard with airbags for the second row passengers, or a pre-2005 model that does not have those airbags. My wife and I will be driving the car, mainly for grocery shopping or short trips around town, and we have two young children (one is 4.5 yrs old and one is 1 yr old). Both my wife and I are inexperienced drivers and we have hardly driven after we got our driving licenses (I am a graduate student and I take the bus to school). This will be our first car and we will be driving it for at least two years.
