I use a regular bulb as a test light. I connect the positive side of the bulb to the negative side of the coil and ground the other side. When I turn the iginition on; the bulb light up, indicating that the negative side of the coil is getting power. However when I turn the iginition to start the car, the bulb only goes off. I was told to use a test light and the light should go on and off when turning the ignition to start the car. Is the bulb not going on and off indicating that the hall effect in the distributor not working or do I need to use a conventional test light to check the hall effect?

I have a 2002 GMC Envoy with over 109,000 miles on it. I have to replace a bushing and also get my rough idle fixed.

The bushing is something that goes out every 20-30k miles and makes a squeeling noise when I come to a hard brake on cool mornings, and of course the idle is only rough when the car starts so it's not that much of a pain.

Unfortunately, I only have enough money to do one at a time.

So what I need to know is which one needs to be replaced first and why so I can do the most important one first.

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2004 Impala SS with the 3.8L supercharged V6. It has the stock 3.8" pulley. How small of a pulley can I go down to before needing an intercooler to avoid preignition? I am planning to get a cool air intake or a hood scoop. Also, what kind of power improvement can I expect to get with the new pulley (say a 2.8" vs. the 3.8")

I accidently grabbed a jug of 30 weight instead of antifreez. I poured about a half quart into my radiator before I noticed. Now the whole cooling system is full of goo. Is this gonna screw up everything or just lube all the parts?? It runs screwy now and I'm wondering if thats why. I live in alska and winter is here, so my brain is a little slow. Any help would be appreciated. I drive a subaru outback 1999.

my boyfriend got mad at me and pulled some cords out from underneath the hood. he said that he put everything back the way that it was before but ever since then it has been making these loud squeaky noises. also, when i first start to go if i am turning the wheel then it will cut off. when i stop at a light or something, then it shakes too and the squeaking gets worse. one of my daddys friends said that one of my belts was coming off and i need a tension pulley. i got that fixed but am still having the same problems. i took it to auto zone and got a diagnostic and they said it was something with the cars computer. after reading this, does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

My jimmy ran out of gas, luckily in my driveway. So I went and got more gas put it in the truck the fuel gauge went up but ever since it ran out it wont start, when you turn the key it doesnt even turn over. Checked the fuses and they are fine, and it doesnt seem that any wires are loose on the starter. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with my truck please help.
