How does it run at idle when it is not in gear? Does it seem to run rough? If so check for Vacuum leaks, check the spark plugs make sure they are not fouled out or in poor condition, Also have the fuel filter replaced. (I replace all filters once a year) If after checking all these things and there is still a problem have a back pressure test run on the exhaust, could be something is plugging up the exhaust pipe. Does it still have good power? Hows the gas mileage? the other solution is a weak fuel pump.

There can be many things. the first question does the check engine light come on? If so have the code read and it will tell you the problem. If not for starters check the fuel filter it may be getting plugged. The other could be the Air Idler Control Valve. This is what controls the idling of you vehicle. These are just a couple of places to start and the least expensive.

It's probably a "vaccuum" problem - which means hoses. If you take your foot off the gas, the vaccuum running through the engine is diminished enough to force the engine to die.

Check your hoses (air lines, mainly) and make sure that they are free of leaks - or, if it's been a while, you may just want to change out your hoses in the engine (all of them). That's your safest bet.

Check your fuel filters, pump and lines. If you car is dying then itis probably choking out. Its really not hard, go to Autozone and buy a book, it will give you step by step. Or have them check you fuel filter next time you get an oil change.

Could be bad gas, or the timing chain is off. It could be any # of things. Be careful taking it to just anyone and always get a second opinion (especially if it's a big cost).
