I was sitting at a drive through restaurant one day. The parking lot was one way. This car tried to come through the wrong way and was sitting in front of me. They wouldn't move (retards) so I started backing up so I could go around them. I turned my head and looked behind me then started backing up. As soon as I started backing up I hit another car. This ghetto chick had swooped around the corner in the time it took me to turn my head back. We pulled over and I asked her if I could pay it out of pocket. She agreed. She got an estimate and we met for lunch. I told her I would meet her at the body shop, pay for her car, then personally drive her to a car rental place and pay for her rental car. I told her if she just wanted cash, I would give her $500.00 right there. She said she would call me. She sent me a fax the next day that said due to all the "credit card scams" that are out there, she wanted cash for the entire repair bill and the loaner.

My cousin works as a driver for a transport firm. His boss is rather petty, demanding him to pay for fuel if his mileage exceeds a certain distance.
He wants to know how to slowdown the odometer, so the distance travelled can be reduced slightly. I suggested a magnet as his is an analog version in a Japanese truck (I think Toyota), but I haven't a clue about trucks.

No attempt to sell the vehicle will be made, he will continue to drive until it 'konks out'.

I just got a 1989 Mercury Cougar bostonian edition, and the air conditioning has stopped cooling. It needs a coolant refill ( r12) but apparentely you have to switch over to a new type of coolant (r134a). Does anyone know how much coolant it takes to refill, and if I have to switch over to the new coolant, a good conversion kit that is easy to use. Thanks.

Beyond just being generally rude and annoying, are they totally unconcerned about losing their hearing? I thought I listened to loud music as a kid, but good grief, you can hear these kids' subwoofers a block away!

I don't want my rates to go up, so I'm paying out of pocket for a 2 inch scratch on someone else's rear bumper. It's a 2004 sable and the body shop says they have to paint the whole bumper and it will cost $700. I have a 2004 350z and my car was damaged much worse, and it's going to cost me $750 to replace the bumper with a new one and paint it and everything. The $700 quote from the other body shop is ridiculous, but when I tried to talk to them and the other people's insurance company they just said I had to have my insurance company deal with it. They are totally taking advantage of me, what can I do?????

My air conditioning in my 1995 Honda civic used to be nice and cold... over time the air became less cool and now it is just blowing warm air. I assume that my air conditioner was out of Freon or whatever they use. Does anyone know the cost of the repair or recharge? It has been 95 degrees+ and I can't take it anymore!

I am looking at a used Hyundai Elantra (2001 with about 70-80k miles). It will be a weekend car and will get its share of abuse, as all cars do, in Manhattan where I live. I won't be able to do much maintenance myself (no place to easily work on it) but I am wondering if you can give me advice on:

A: Anything I should look out for with a used car given the mileage/age (for example, I read that the timing belt and water pump should be changed at 60k mi)

B: Anything you might suggest that I do upon buying a used car with this many miles to prevent headaches later on (repairs in NYC are a bit of a pain and garages are often expensive)

I was thinking: oil change (maybe synthetic oil), new filters, plugs, plug wires... Does this sound right? Anything else that I should expect to be wearing out soon?

I really do appreciate your advice. I haven't owned a car in quite a number of years and never one with this many miles.

What are some recommendations / racing rules regarding batteries mounted close to a fuel cell? Other than a sealed battery box.

My car isn't going to be a drag car, but it will be run a few times just to see #'s, so I want it legal to run a 1/4 mile.

It's a 72 Datsun 240Z With a Chevy 350. Not that it matters much.

Thanks in advance for the help.
