I was sitting at a drive through restaurant one day. The parking lot was one way. This car tried to come through the wrong way and was sitting in front of me. They wouldn't move (retards) so I started backing up so I could go around them. I turned my head and looked behind me then started backing up. As soon as I started backing up I hit another car. This ghetto chick had swooped around the corner in the time it took me to turn my head back. We pulled over and I asked her if I could pay it out of pocket. She agreed. She got an estimate and we met for lunch. I told her I would meet her at the body shop, pay for her car, then personally drive her to a car rental place and pay for her rental car. I told her if she just wanted cash, I would give her $500.00 right there. She said she would call me. She sent me a fax the next day that said due to all the "credit card scams" that are out there, she wanted cash for the entire repair bill and the loaner.

Now she had a 1997 Oldsmobile and I had a 3 year old Audi A4. Why would she care how I paid for it? I never responded to her and she turned a claim into my insurance. When the insurance company called me to ask about it, I said she was a liar and that she backed into me. Since it was private property and the police were not involved, it was simply her word against mine. They denied her claim and I never spoke to her again. It is obvious that she didn’t care about the 3 inch scratch in her 9 year old car, just the money. However I still feel guilty sometimes because there is damage to her car that I caused… but I truly don’t think she cared, she just wanted the money, and not just the $500.00 I offered her to go away, she wanted cash for the entire repair bill and rental. Do you think I am wrong?

Ok, you're not a bad person, just misguided. The bad part was the lying... always wrong!! Esp. in matters of insurance. However, based on your story and information, it does seem completely obvious that she only wanted the cash and wasn't going to bother fixing her car. Plus, her argument about "credit card scams" was bogus if you were going to be paying IN PERSON with the card that is yours... it isn't as if you were trying to western union her hte money online (which is a known scam).
I'd say you handled it properly and neither one of you is really any worse off for the situation.
However, in the future, I would suggest not trying to make back-room deals over car accidents!

Well first off you did not have your head turned to prove that she whipped around the corner in the first place so that is only your word. So that is your fault you should never try to back up in a public place without looking.
Second she had every right to turn that into the insurance company. You hit her and not the other way around and if that was you I do not believe that you would of just let that go by without something taking place to pay for the damages.
Just because you have this very nice car and not everyone is as fortunate as you does not mean there property does not need to be repaired as if you were to be the one that got hit.
And even if she just wanted to pocket that money that would be up to her considering even so she was owed it in the first place.
And what I really do not get is if you have the money to pay for such nice vehicle why be so cheap when it comes to pay for anothers that you did damage.
I hope that she takes you to court because that was wrong in your part and you did indead lie about not hitting her. That was very low and dirty.
And wanting the entire bill to be paid was fair of her to ask considering you wanted to just pay for it, that is why people have insurance for that purpose unless you are known for wrecks and already have a higher premium and that should tell you something anyways.
Call your insurance company and fix the wrong that you had done!
I can not beleive that you did that and now broadcasting it!

Well a similar thing happened to me once in a drive through but not exactly like that lol. I was behind a car in line and they backed into me. They did not see me or even turn their head to look. I had a new Mustang. These girls just laughed and so did the people in the drive through and in the place. I did not know what to do. They did not stop and obviously no one cared enough to help or call the police for me. It was not like they crammed into my car, but it did leave a small place on it. I was so embarrassed and did not have enough sense to just stop right there in that drive through and back up the traffic and walk in the restaurant and demand to use the phone. That way I could have had the stupid small town police officer at least file a report. I had my mentally challenged aunt with me that day and that did not help things. So I just drove away. I would have appreciated the kind gesture you bestowed when that occurred to you. I would have been more than willing to get it taken care of in a decent manner than to have a person just drive away laughing. So at least you tried to do the right thing and your efforts were not appreciated so you did your best. Don't worry about it at all. OK!! :)

Yes you were wrong. BUT so was she. If she were an honest person who cared about getting her car fixed she would have accepted your offer to meet her at the shop and pay them for it, drive her to the rental place and pay them for the rental. That was a perfectly reasonable solution. I work in a body shop and I see people all the time that just want money, not repairs! Some even have the balls to ask us to jack up the estimate so they can get more money!

This is why you should use your insurance. There was a scam going on. I wonder if you went by the girls house if that car that was going the wrong way wasn't parked out front. I hope she doesn't try to take you to small claims, I bet she could conveniently finds a witness to back her up. To play it safe, use your insurance, it could save you in the long run.

I think you did well. Sounds like she won't bother you any more. And you're right, she did just want the cash. I'm glad you didn't give to her, without any proof that you gave it to her she might keep bothering you. In any case, sounds like it's her word against yours. It sounds like your back bumper hit her front bumper, right? If no one can prove that you were backing up it's actually her fault for rearending you, right? The way you described it sounds like she should have been paying more attention as well.
Don't worry about it. Call it even and be happy she didn't take your money.

Actually it sounds like you tried to work it out - and she obviously still has your fax number and a phone number as well as your insurance information if she wanted to persue the situation she could very easily. Your only fault was actually lying to the insurance company - - wrong but not terrible - and you were still willing to give her some $$.

If there's karma involved, she's being paid back for something she did to screw with someone else. You're being rewarded for something kind you did in the past.
If she can't see that a bird in the hand ($500) is worth two in the bush, then she loses.
Let it go. Forget the past and live in the present...it's all you have anyhow.
