There are 10 fish in a tank.....3 of them drowned.....how many fishes are left?

Actually I think if you consider this you will come to the conclusion that there are seven left.
Fish can, and indeed do drown from time to time as a consequence of lack of oxygen in the water. They strain water through their gills to derive the oxygen aborbed in the water, but were you to put fish in a fish tank with no air pump, plants, or other outside source of air interchange, and then completely fill the tank and seal the top, indeed the fish would drown.
One of the problems resulting from water pollution in a certain number of areas where too much nitrogen fertilzer is used is that it promotes excessive growth of certain types of plants and algae that actually rob the water of oxygen content, and the fish die off, literally drowning in an oxygen starved environment.

Even if fish could drown, There would be 10 fish in the tank. 3 dead and 7 alive.

If it's a tank full of water, fishes can't be drowned in there but if it's full of oil, it's possible... Seven fishes are left! Of course!

Is the grammer a trick? If they drowned before the count, as suggested by the grammer there are still ten. If they drowned after (then you should say "3 of them drown" then there are 7 left.
