The under hood temperature in my '76 4x4 Chevy Van (G3500 small block 400 Turbo 350 automatic transmission) gets too high when I shut off the engine. Until I replaced the HEI with conventional ignition, the HEI would overheat and refuse to work until it cooled down, eventually frying completely (I got lucky and found an engineer who helped develop the original HEI and he clued me in on this problem).

Now, if the outside air gets above 85°F, when I have driven more than 10 minutes or so, shut the engine off, let it sit for over 5 minutes and under 20 minutes, the starter is so hot that it fails to crank enough to start the engine.

I have replaced the starter three times; I have replaced the ignition switch with a high capacity diesel push button; I have replaced both the battery cables.

I am considering louvering the hood and/or installing an electric fan (with a thermal switch powered even with the key off--the solution GM adopted in later models).

I have a mercruiser 120 hp I/O that will not go into reverse. It seems to run ok in forward but when i attempt to engage it will go in. Sometimes when i try to engage the reverse it makes a racheting noise and sounds almost half in. I do not know how to fix it or how to go about diagnosing it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If someone parks behind my vehicle in my driveway what can I do? my car was in my driveway and a company truck that was servicing the water main or something at the house next to mine parked at the end of my driveway COMPLETELY blocking in one of my vehicles and barely leaving me room to take out the other one. I went out to start my truck and they saw me so I figured they would move seeing they were blocking me in, when I went to leave almost 5 minute later noone was outside and I came within 6 inches of hitting them. I returned a few minutes later and someone was outside again and the truck was still in the same spot BLOCKING most of my driveway. Did i have the right to hit them for refusing to move and if nobody is at the vehicle can i legally have it towed???

I want a fast car that worth what I am going to pay for. Good on gas wouldn't be a bad thing but if not I like the speed.
