I rented a home for 1 year and 2 months. I paid upfront the 1st and last months rent + $1000 or $2000 ....i don't even remeber....the problem my ex-husband had just died....i had come into some money because of....and i was still in shock and suffering from a very severe depression.....i had misplaced the original lease....i left entering a treatment center......he had had me evicted because i didn't pay that last months rent....at the time, i was too messed up on drugs to take care of this....but i know he took advantage of me...i went to the housing crisis center for the landlord tenant workshop. They said by law i had 2 years to notify him of my address and request my deposit back. I sent him a certified letter (the form that gave me). The letter came back to me, with him never accepting it, which tells me he knows he did wrong...otherwise why didn't he accept it. He has several (at least 8, probably more) rent houses in the area of mine (he lived on 2 blocks from me).

My father and Uncle purchase property, from my understanding they have run into some credit problems. From what my cousin has told me, they have asked her if they could put property in her name (she said no). I wouldn't put it past them to try and use my name without asking. I'm trying to see if there is a way to locate any property that might be in my name. I am located in South Texas, any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

I collected a $600 deposit on a home I rent. The carpet has some major stains that I know were not there before, and it won't clean up by steam cleaning it. You can't just put a new piece of carpet there because it would look funny, but wow, to replace it, it would be the entire living room floor which is a lot. Is that too much to ask for to replace that? Isn't that what damage deposits are for?

I see homes listed as foreclosure in my neighborhood. I would like to purchase one of them, but I'm finding most of these listing are bogus. Is there a way to search the MLS listing for these homes by using street name and city. The foreclosure companies do not list an actual MLS#. I want to contact the realtor/bank that is trying to sell the home.

My roomate and I are in the military, and having trouble with the landlord getting out of our lease, even though he has orders (I dont', and they won't let me out because we don't have the same last name, even though we only signed one lease.)

The apartment manager is really strict on complaints, and will throw you out for just a couple. So we are thinking about just asking our neighbors to make a few noise complaints on us so we will get thrown out, since they are giving us so much trouble about having to relocate for military reasons.

Is this a bad idea? Can they charge you for more than a month's rent and cleaning if they evict you?

My roommate recently lost his job and didn't pay his half of the rent on time. Now the apartment people are posting notes on the door saying they want $620 by 01/11/07 or they demand possession of the premises. I have $250-$300 I can give them right now but I won't have the rest until 01/12/07 which is when I get paid. Will they work with me for an extra day?

I have found a home I'd like to purchase and do not have a Realtor. Since all the front end work is done, can I negotiate with the selling Agent the commission? Can I ask for her to give me the 3% the buying agent would get? Should I instead approach another Agent and offer them a dollar amount to represent me and I get the 3% commission?

I live in Illinois and have a contract longer than 3 months with my realtor. However, and ex-realtor told me that by law in Illinois a realtor selling agreement can only be for 3 months so this one is no good. Is that true?

I met my roomates on an apartment referral site and they suck. They are messy and annoying. So, I am moving out after living with them for 4 months (it was a month to month arrangement). I gave them 45 days notice and it was agreed that I would use my deposit as last month's rent.
Now, my move date is 2 weeks away and they want me to pay last month's rent. They said they will give me the deposit at the end of the month. But, if it was already agreed on, I don't think I'm being out of line by telling them I'm not going to give them the money. If they don't have the money now, they aren't going to have it in three weeks... I don't want to get screwed out of $600. Am I right??
I am just afraid they might try something... Like stealing my stuff.
