I'm in real estate in a vacation destination area. Prices on short term rentals do go up in the summer when it is peak tourist season. However, this should not affect you as you are looking for a long term rental. Go ahead and check around for pricing now and keep notes on the places you really like. If the price on the place you want does go up for the summer, which is unlikely, you can always haggle for the lower cost with the condition of a long term lease.

The market forces affecting supply and demand for rental apartment housing in your local area, will be the determinants as to whether rents will go up, down, or stay the same. Is your town a college town? If it's a huge college dominating a comparatively very small town, such as Amherst, Massachusetts or Indiana, Pennsylvania, the end of summer is the last choice as to time of year I would want to try to move into a new apartment, because I'd be competing against all that demand from students starting their fall semester. But if it's a resort town in the mountains/lakes of New Hampshire, where the overnight lows on Labor Day weekend already dip to near freezing and the tourists disappear for warmer climes, that kind of place could expect to have rock-bottom rent bargains about that time of year. You haven't informed us as to your city or locality.

depending on the area that you are moving to, the prices could very well go up in the summer. the cost could change any time of the year depending on when the annual open date is for the apartment complex. most apartment companies raise the rent prices yearly.

I know after a few months of researching where to live that the apts I looked at raised their rent prices when they were at full capacity.

When they have many spaces available they will have rental specials. Supply and Demand

The seasons have little to do with the price, unless of course you are at the beach.
