After years of renting and pretty much throwing away money, I'd like to buy a property in London next year. I don't want to stretch myself too much in case of interest rate rises, but I'm terrified that in a few years there will be an almightly crash and I'll lose my money. How likely is this?

I am young would like to buy my first piece of property, and I have been advised that I should be doing this by buying a forclosure property. I don't want to go through any of those gimics that you see on TV, I just want to buy a regular house that I can live in, then rent out when I have more money to spend on something. Can someone tell me the best way to find out about finding out and buying these properties, do you do it directly through a bank? How is it done? I want to be able to finance the property, so I can't buy it outright unless it is really cheap. What should I do?

I am interested in buy in Southern California, and either buying a house or a condo.

I hold an appraisal license...Can I represent someone for a tax appeal as a "consultant"? USPAP is very confusing to me on this issue. If so, how do you seperate the two, what is a normal fee for consulting residential property owners on tax appeals, and are there any legal ramifications? Also, I work for a lending institution and would this even be possible? Conflict of interest possibly? I'm thinking of ways to supplement income in down times, and wondering if this would work? If I do tax appeals, maybe just do properties in areas I know I would never do appraisal work? All answers appreciated

My Mom has a house that is in dire straits. Just unbelievably awul condition. I called the ugly house people (from the billboards) and they said it is a project they would not take on because there are way to many repairs that need done and a chance of profit is slim to none.

So my question is, is it possible to just give the house away? Are there organizations that would take it? Perhaps as a dontation? I thought about listing it for sale for like $5000 and see if anyone wants it. It is seriously in bad shape. I am open to any and all ideas. Thanks!

Say that I turn my primary residence into a rental property and rent it for 1500 when my mortgage payment with taxes and insurance is really 2000.
can I claim that 500 monthly loss when I file taxes to IRS? If so how does that deduction work? Is it like any other deduction?

And lastly if I were to rent it for a gain hypothetically speaking, how does the gain get taxed? Like regular income? thank you.

Sunday night, the toilet & shower started overflowing and sent sewage onto the floor in the downstairs. The problem was a result of roots in the sewer pipe that caused the back-up. The sewage spilled onto the carpet in the room. i called a plumber to fix the problem immediately. however, we need to replace the carpet.

I have sent two emails to my landlord regarding the problem and left two voicemails. The carpet is a health hazard and needs to be replaced immediately. How should i proceed in fixing this problem?

Should i replace the carpet and then just deduct from the rent (which is due today)? Or just not pay rent until i hear from the landlord on how to proceed?!

Help!!

My boyfriend just bought a house and is asking me to move in with him and pay $500 rent. What should i do to prepare myself in terms of legal issues if we were to run into trouble? Should I ask him if utilities are included in the rent? Should I have him sign a contract? I just want to make sure my i's are dotted and my t's are crossed before I jump into this with him. It's a business deal with his friend, with whom he purchased the house with 50/50. Would it be rude of me to assume responsibility of drawing up a list of house rules? The whole reason why I'm being so precotious is because I've lived with people and the screwed me over and I want to avoid that at any costs again. All of your answers are greatly appreciated.

I signed a lease I couldnt remember exactly what I signed, so I asked my landlord to send me a copy and when I got it I noticed there was white out on it to change the date. You can actually feel the white out on the copy. Does this void out the lease? The end of lease date is longer then I thought. I live in Massachusetts I dont know if the laws are different in other states.

I work as a property manager for a man who owns about 150 houses. He has decided to retire and sell of all but a few of his homes. I have my real estate liscense (my boss is a broker) and he agreed to give me 1.75% on all the homes I sell. As homes become vacant we get them ready to put on the market. I listed two homes in the MLS and began spending weekends and evenings showing the properties and holding open houses. He accepted an offer on one home within a week (I didn't even get a chance to hold an open house) from a buyer working with an agent from another office. Weeks later another buyers agent submitted an offer on the other house which he accepted. He feels he owes me nothing because I did not personally find the buyers. I want compensation for my time and professional work- i.e. listing the house, measuring sq.ft., finding comparables, advertising, etc. I want 1.5% of the sale price on each house. He feels I deserve nothing. Does anyone know a fair solution?
