1) So, I have lived in my home for 7 years. in '99 it was purchased for $155K. it is now worth $290K. I simply want to live in an apartment and invest this money in mutual funds. How can I calculate the capital gains I need to pay out?

2)
$290K-$155K=$135K That is under $250K, what exactly is the $250K exclusion?

a car loses at least1/2 it's value or more in 5 years but a house may even increase value. would'nt it be a better investment for a bank or credit company to loan money on the house?

So my eviction was for Sat., Oct. 15, 2006 @ midnight. Around 1:00p.m. that Sat. I came home to 6 people, the landlord, his 2 old enough daughters, step-son & his wife, as well as his friend, who happened to make false reports to C.P.S. on me because I waited for legal eviction, all in my trailor. I had been gone apprx. 2 hrs. I walked up to the deck only to get screamed @ like they were on Springer. I called the police & found out they not only had to of broke in but they changed my locks as well. The officer made them change it back w/ verbal notice I had til midnight. I had countless items missing but the $373.00s that I had hidden in my closet was gone. I couldnt do a thing about it then. Do I have rights?

My husband and I just got married and we have the worst luck in the world. We are honestly good people. My husbands felony charge when he was younger holds us back, he keeps loosing his job. My credit and his credit aren't so great because we knew nothing about credit cards in high school. We just got kicked out of our apartment because we are habitually late at paying rent but ALWAYS paid. This was due to the bad luck and circumstances that kept coming up. I know it's no excuse but we are now trying to start fresh. Our landlord has branded us as "horrible" tenants to our prospective landlords that no one wants to rent to us. She took us to court and we vacated the apt as agreed but she still hasn't dismissed the case and is telling everyone we owe her, we tried to settle with her, asking her the amount we "supposedly" owed and she said she has to wait for our water sewage bill. My husband and I have no place to stay but hotels. We desperately need help..is there any hope?

I was wondering if perhaps this could be an easy profit? I read that houses where someone was murdered are normally purchased at deep discounts. So if you bought the house and then rented it out would this make you a lot of money? Do you have to tell people you rent to that someone was killed inside? I really dont know if this method would make a lot of money because I dont know anything about real estate, or matters concerning it....I was just wondering if this would work.

We are looking to buy a new home. Have been researching different locations in Virginia for about 4 or 5 years. About 2 years ago we thought we had finally decided that we liked the new home community of Monticello Woods in Williamsburg, Va. However, the builder was not very cooperative and the sales agent was the only one we got to talk to. Therefore, we decided against it and continued our search. There was something about the whole deal that just didn't seem right to us. Anyway, we have since started building in another community with a very good and cooperative builder. Recently on one of our trips to Williamsburg we decided to take a ride out to see how Monticello Woods was doing. We counted at least 16 to 18 homes with "For Sale" signs in front of them! We were just curious to know why that many people are moving out?! Seems like we made the right decision not to build there.
The ironic thing is that he is building more homes there!

I'm in the Englewood area. I need to find an apartment or house for like under $600 bucks a month. I moved down here because my aunt offered me a place to live and while I was driving down (from Michigan) she took off. So now I'm here, with my boyfriend, and we need somewhere to live.
So any ideas for affordable housing?
Thanks in advance everyone
