I will be moving from Chicago to Sydney for 2 years with my company - what can I expect to pay in Australian dollars monthly for rent in a studio apt or 1 bedroom near the beach.

Also do they do credit checks for renters in australia? Would they run a credit check on someone for the US renting an apartment?

Does the landlord have the right for a background check? A credit check? Call ur previous housing for payment information? If you have already given down payment and first month rent payment when should the landlord authorize the move in date?

I moved into an apartment with a friend in the fall. She failed to mention to me that I would have to share the room with her until she had already agreed on the apartment (she set up the apartment in the west while I prepared to move). Her friend also moved in with us, and she brought along two cats that she has been illegally harboring in the apartment. The cats have fleas that we have not been able to get rid of--I get bit constantly--I have done everything (advantage, flea powder, fumigation) to no avail. My roommates don't mind the fleas and they haven't noticed/cared that the pilot light on the heater is out and we remain without heat (I can't take work off to deal with PG&E). I am fed up, how can I get out of this lease (which we all separately signed) without reporting the cats? I am angry, not evil, but I have reached my limit. I came home today from holiday and the cat had peed on my sheets which they had leant to a friend--enough it enough!

Is this a violation of the R.E. agents license and its accompanying state regulations? Can my friend back out of his "signed" contract. He moved in yesterday and boy is he upset because drilling companies are making offers in the neighborhood to lease, including right under him. He has not gotten and offer...yet. What, if anything can he do?

I know this is an very general question; however, I am looking for some helpful warnings from those who have already gone through this. I have always rented and feel with the falling prices and relatively low interest rates, next year might be a good time to take the plunge. I have read that it is important to get an engineer to look over the house before you buy. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

I am first time home buyer.
I am interested in the interest only loan.
After the three years I can handle the increased payment.
Money is tight right now, though.
In the future my salary will rise, as I am at the bottom of the spectrum now. pay range is 60k to 110k.
Also because of my income I am looking to reduce my tax liability.

What are some of the benefits and disadvantages to it.
I know that you gain no equity during the first few years

I used to live in a company flat, I was bought out of the property, but when i moved out, nobody took the key back. The property is still empty.
I read on another site, I cant remember what the name of it is, that you can legally move in the property and take it over as yours. Is this true and what are the legal implications?

I've advertised for hurricane evacuees to buy these homes in Texas, offered by HUD at reduced cost, but no luck in actually finding someone who wants one, and qualifies. Have you had any luck in this? How?

Just wondering if it is rude to tell him we prefer to go in our own vehicle

I have been taking care of my parents for the past 15 years, before they got too sick, they transfered the deed in my name and I assumed their payments. Since then I have refinanced once and made improvements to the home and have lived here with my spouse and kids. Unfoutunatly, my father has passed and my mother is on her way, should I be worried that my siblings will take this home from me?

Let say I have a chunk of cash, and I want to buy a property for rent + I will pay off the mortgage in one shot, so I will not borrow any $ from the bank. Is buying an apartment/condo or a house better for income? what are some advantages and disadvantages.

I know that you build equity faster with money down.
With no money down, your assets are more liquid.
Anymore pros or cons.

Just please tell me what to budget per month. I know as long as it is under $1000.00 I can do it but I want to know the actual number and don't want to go to the bank or hassle of salespeople!!!!!!!!! Thanks!

My future wife and I put a offer on a home last week at 131,000, with an asking price of 139,900. We were counter offered by the owners at 135,900, but they accepted our other terms (i.e. leave the deep freezer, pay for a home warranty.) The home has been on the market for over 6 months. It is the nicest home that we have seen so far, and it is in a good neighborhood. Still, over 200 homes are for sale in this area at the current time, as reflected in the asking price (it went on the market over 164,000 during the summer). We are going to counter offer the counter offer, but we are having a hard time coming to a decision. Any help?
