Charging an advance fee for a loan is illegal in the US and in Canada. What are the laws like in other countries (for example, the UK)?

My fiance has a Bank of America credit card. There's a $7500 limit on the card but after finance charges, late fees etc, the debt is now at $8900. She went 120 days late on payments and was called by Card Services, they say they're a collection division of Bank of America. They offered her settlement in the amount of $4500 rather than the $8900 on the card. She thinks its a deal because half the debt is "vanishing". We checked her credit report and she isn't listed as being in collections just extremely late on pay. I argued with her saying that the settlement is bad and that it will affect her credit for years to come but she thinks its a good plan. We're planning on looking for a house in a year and a half and i don't want this to affect our buying power. So how does settlement effect her credit? Does paying off the full amount rather than settling look better on your credit report even though the account is past due? What should we do, who's right here?

Okay, here's my issue. I defaulted on a loan once but I have since paid it off. But for two years after paying it off, the company have not done anything to report that I've since satisfied that. I even have the letter from the court dating two years back signed by their own lawyer that I have paid everything in full. What should I do? I haven't been able to apply for financial aid and stuff because I kept showing up defaulted for the last two years when I should not have been.

I am wondering what I need(especially in Canada) in order to get a large loan, with no personal credit or collateral.

I have no credit, good or bad, just none whatsoever. I also have no assets that I can use to secure the loan.

So would I need to get a cosigner with collateral and credit, or just a guaranteur with collateral and credit?

I mean I realize there must be a way, because kids out of high school do it without credit, so how does it get done?

Also is there a limit for how much one can get for a first time loan under such circumstances?

I have a credit card & added my fiance as an authorized user, and when we went to buy a house that acct. showed up on his credit report! I pay everything on time & it did not negatively effect his score, but I am just wondering how/why that happens? I did not provide the card company with his SSN or anything, so how did they even link the authorized user card to him?

Hi

I am a hard working professional, 24 years old. My wife and I are expexcting our first child on 11/07/2007. We currently have a mortgage but our lender and others are unable to lend much more than we already borrow. We want to move home to a nicer area for ourselves and the family we hope to have.

My credit is not bad or good because I have never borrowed in my life and apart from the current mortgage, never will unless it is for a better home.

Since working after leaving school I am now a part qualified accountant and despite not earning that much, I hope that when I progess my income will increase, thus increasing my repayment ability.

This question is one of those that I hope soemone who has information about or is in a position to help me will recieve it.

Before you say it. Yes, I am in a good career and do have more than most others in my position, but by God I have earned it. My beginnings were humble to say the least and my lifestyle affords no luxury.
