Question for anyone who's an accountant, financial advisor/analyst, HR specialist, marketing person, etc. How often do you end up having to work overtime (i.e. over 40 hours/week)?

I wanted to do good, got a job in adult ed. with public school system. Here's some things that happened--
1. The placement test had no validity; I told the admin. No answer. I called the State 'consultant'. She said "Too bad."
2. After 3 months, 1 admin. started hounding me to do data entry. I said ok, but only 2 hours a day. I have carpal tunnel. She said. "Too bad." we all work in pain.
3. I called HR person: she said: "only 2 hours?' we have people with carpal tunnel who type more than that."
4. Had meeting with HR person & admin: Admin said "You should have told us you had carpal tunnel" (But data entry was not on my job duties). HR person just sat there.
5. Asked who was my supervisor and showed my job description. HR person showed me her copy. Name on HR copy was different than mine.
6. HR person drew up letter for my Dr. to sign off on. Duties were completely inaccurate. I was doing data entry 6 hrs/day. Letter said I only needed to do 2 hrs. Letter was total bogus.
??????

'm up for this job, and normally I only put my professional fundraising work. Well in 2004, I got fired from an administrative assistant job and they ran a complete background check on me and found out. Well, they want to contact my former supervisor. Problem is he hates me. I was actually fired with no just cause and because I was friends with someone who he was getting ready to fire. Long story short. Can this guy tell my potential employer anything? And what do I do? Just refer them to the HR department? And what can they tell him?

I submitted an application with a civil service agency for a job today. The necessary education and experience was described as follows: "Bachelor of sicience degree from accredited four-year college in related field. Two years of progressive responsibility. Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job."
Ok, I don't have a Bachelors Degree, but something compareble to an associats degree (from Europe) and I read the above description as a possible suggestion that other combinations of educaton and experience would be considered.
Well, the civil service secretary that took my application was down right rude. She insisted that she made it very clear that a Degree was required (it didn't say required!). As I was leaving she said, well, I guess thats what happens if english is your second language. SHOCK! I was speachless and left.

I'm out of a job! I got a job at a bank, and after a month, I had to leave due to a training problem. that job was my ticket to getting into college again! I had to drop out for a year to pay off my first year, which still has some debt on it. I'm 21 and I don't want to end up working in McDonalds or walmart again! I need something that pays more than $10 an hour! I ain't working any "at home jobs either. I already tried that, and It didn't work.

Okay, I KNOW what I want. I want to have my first kid at a pretty early age......like early 20's.
And I really want to go to medical school too!
EVERYONE says that it is almost impossible to go through residency with having a child, but my husband works a regular eight hour day in the military and he would most likely be around for the child....plus I have parents!!
SO......what should I do.
I know for a fact that I can not wait another eight years to have kids when I am finished with medical school, so that is just out of the question!
I would also appreciate any other suggestions for different careers that pay relatively high. I am also interested in creative sort of work....or even real estate!
Thanks!

Why do employers force people to resign? Isn't that the same as firing them? It's almost like resign or else sentence. What is really the truth behind the matter?

3 years ago i had a drug and alcohol prob...no one thought i would still be around, but i overcame both and now am one of the top performers at work. I have an interview july 3rd for the position i always wanted, but many internal managers are telling me that my character could be my fatal flaw. I have not only excelled at sales but I have had no incidents since. Of all the candidates I feel i have the most to offer (graduated while working full time with an MBA and with honors) have a stellar review from my current boss and have been a top producer, yet the stigma of my past still lingers....what can i do to gain more confidence in myself and pass that belief to my interviewing manager?

I have been at my job for 5 years and am very informative. I am doing things that other people would not even consider doing. I have been looked over plenty of times now for a promotion and have started looking for another job. I have mentioned to my management that I am willing to accept more reponsibility. They give me the responsibility but not the title.
What do employers look for when considering their employees for promotions?
