I just took over a store about two months ago. All of a sudden I have at least one employee calling in five of sevens days in the week. My company's attendance policy is not strict enough for me to fire the slackers fast enough. I need some help to curb this issue now!!!

I am a young 50 years old female. My children are now out of the house and I am looking for a job that I can enjoy. I have worked in accounting and sales. My most recent job was selling IT classes but the company disolved. I am presently unemployed but want to find that "perfect job". I have an associates degree in business but I would love a career that involves some travel, negioations, or training. Most employment sites seem to be geared to the young. I am not interested in going back to school to further my education but I am finding it hard to get the interviews with a decend paying job. I dont want to "start at the beginning". My questions are: Any career field suggestions?, Should I hire a resume service to give me a professional edge? What do you think about temp jobs?. I can work alone or as a group but prefer smaller groups. I like to make decisions, take action, dont mind a small salary if commission is large. I dont want insurance or finance or retail sales field.Help!

I am currently working for a sm. company with only 50 employess. The company is only 7 yrs.old. One of first employees hired and been with company for 4 years.
Pros: Small company, great co workers, very laid back atmosphere, routine work assignment each day. As long as my work is done, no boss over shoulder. Recieves a $1500 christmas bonus, and monthly incentatives approx. $150, but not guaranteed.
Cons: Under paid. Pay $11 a hour, compared to market value of pay in zip code, should be approx. $14-$17 hourly. Started with company when they were just starting out, and I took low pay because of it being a new company. Was told that as company progressed, pay would meet current market. 4 years later and still under... discussed with owner, states no problem with my work, but company can't raise pay, only 3% pay raise each year.
I am financially comfortable and don't have to have a higher paying job. But...I feel with my work history and experience that I should be paid better.

Administrator, Ivy League university in large city, 9 to 5, for 8 months. I'd like to save more money for a house instead of blowing it on rent. However, if I stay with family, my commute would be at least 2 hrs one way. (I want to save that badly). Instead of 5 regular days/wk, I was thinking 3-4 long days (pushing for 3), plus some hours from home. I was hoping the long commute might also demonstrate my commitment to the job. (wishful thinking?). No roommates for me (bad experiences), family only. I'd still save hundreds more per month even with the commute.

"Dear Kate:
Is it your preference not to hire anyone outside the city of Chicago? I only ask because I've sent my resume three years in a row, and each time I'm asked about the distance, and then receive no further correspondence. If the distance is an issue, please tell me, and I will refrain from submitting a resume in the future."

This sound like a pretty ***hole thing to say, I know. But my resume is fantastic, and I only send it to this one place every year. I probably shouldn't waste my time, right?

So I got an offer by another firm to work as a technical writer. Cool beans especially since it's only a 15 min drive from home as oppose to the 1 hour drive with my current job. I took this job because I wanted to start working fast and was willing to drive. But now I'm not and so I was actively searching for jobs for the past 8 months. I never brought pictures for my desk or anything. But I did do a great job in my current position. Now, I received an offer that consists of more money and the luxury of working from home at times. How do I tell my good boss, who's been so good to me, that I'm giving him a two week notice? I thought that maybe I should just say I'm going back to school to pursue my bachelors, but when I tried that one, he said he would pay for my tuition! Ahhh! Should I say I'm moving? I just don't want to straight up say, "hey i'm leaving because I dread the commute".

Any Ideas?

I am trying to look for a new apartment for my daughter and I. And my budget is very limited. I was wondering if there were any places that help with that. I don't want to go on welfare because I don't believe in that. Also i'm looking into getting a second part-time job like for Avon or something, are there any jobs like that online?
