The JobCentre does its clients no favours. Every time my organisation advertises a position openly in the newspaper, we get at least 2 or 3 applications from people who are obviously not qualified for the job and have clearly been told to put in x no of applications per week. It's just a waste of time.
The staff are at basic clerical level and they are being asked to deal with problems beyond their scope. Many long term unemployed people have other problems such as mental ill health - a 5 minute interview once a fortnight isn't going to go anywhere near dealing those issues.
if the Govt was serious about getting people into proper, quality jobs, they would put in more resources to enable JobCentre workers to be able to give more support and also work with outside agencies and the voluntary sector.

The reason there are no decent jobs at the jobcentre is because most companies worry about getting timewasters applying or because the applicants have to apply rather than want to apply.
Most employers go through agencies and if the agencies struggle to find applicants then they pass it to the jobcentre.

Often the jobs they get to hear about are the ones the employer can't fill any other way; they're a sort of last resort.

Because they are unorganised and under staffed meaning the good people who work them get rather irate. Never having decent jobs available doesnt help either. I blame the agencies.
