If you were offered a promotion that you thought would be really boring, but would look good on a resume, would you do it? Assume you knew you would only be with that company for a few more years and then would move on. This promotion is more a change in status and responsiblity, but not a huge increase in pay.

I called off 2 hours and 15 minutes before my shift.....2 hours later there was a knock at my door and my wife answered and it was my boss asking if I was home.......he must have got my address from my personal records on file with the company..........she told him I was infact home but I was sick and sleeping.........he asked if he could speak with me........and she said no, because I was sick and sleeping........he mentioned that he had been trying to call me all morning and I hadn't answered the phone and he wanted to know if I was coming to work..........at this point she asked him to leave........he went to his car and sat infront of my house for 5 more minutes before he left........my wifes car was running and she wanted to leave for work but was uncomfortable/intimidated leaving the house with him still outside.

Do I have any recourse here?..........I am a laborer for a major US company and I feel that this was completely wrong on many different levels

I live in upstate New York and all I have heard is that I have to be fired to collect. I work in a pretty hostile enviroment right now, the owners are getting divorced, I was just passed over for a raise and the new girl got salary, about 20k more. This is a restaurant, banquet house that opened last June, and I have been here since July. I have worked my butt off, wearing many hats and have quite a few people who will vouch for all the work I have done for this place. What can I do? I hurt so bad for being used one more time. I am the office administrator and incharge of personnel and payroll. I signed a confidentiallity agreement. Is that going to mess me up?

I am 27, male, I am an Industrial Engineering graduate. Last time I have worked for 2 1/2 years in production, but I found the job were not interesting because I could hardly apply what I have learnt, and I expected more technical job. Then I quit and found new job in finance. Now I am interested in IT. I have taken several courses throughout few years, and I am pursuing my Master degree in IT, although currently I am not working in engineering or IT field, but in finance. I heard from some of my classmate that their jobs are quite demanding. I also read job advertisements in newspaper and found that oftentimes they require ability in many programming laguages and other qualification. Can you share with me, what should I do, what technical skills I should possess to be "out of the crowd"? Thanks in advance for your sincere advice.

Hint: I am in Singapore.

When I left school I was offered 3 jobs with three of the then "big four" banks, as a cashier. I'm not clever and my exam results were average. Kids nowadays are smarter than they used to be but find it so much more difficult to find work. If I hade my own business I would make it a point to employer youth without experience. They have to start somewhere. My daughter has been looking for a job since last September with no joy.

She has GCSE's of which most are C's and above. She has A-levels in food technology, health and social care and english. She then went to work in a food store for 2 years after that as a supervisor. She has applied for several jobs recently and been turned down for each one. The employers have given the reasons that either she has had no experience or they have taken someone on that has more experience than herself. This is really starting to deflate her confidence.
Doe's anyone have any suggestions with regards to job hunting that i can give her or help her with??
Thanks in advance,
Sam.

I recently lost my job at a bank because of a mystery shopper.
According to the shopper, I was friendly, enthusiastic, and efficient but I didn't use their name during the transaction. The company had been harassing us about mystery shops for awhile and I got fired for this. I stand by the high level of customer service I offered to each and every client that comes through that branch. I do not believe that using the first name of a total stranger is appropriate at all. Myself, I prefer that if I am unknown to someone providing a service to me refer to me as maam, and be polite and helpful. I am uncomfortable with forced congeniality. If a personal repoir is created with the client then name usage is certainly appropriate. Am I just being weird about this? Customer service cannot be pigeon-holed, particularly in a banking situation where the needs and behaviors of the clients are so incredibly diverse. Or am I wrong?
