I'm an IT professional with 12 years of experience. I have a B.S. in computer information systems. I'm also PMI Certified as a project manager. I'm kinda in a jack of all trades role right now. My company offshored all development. So, I get my hands into code to tweak it. I coordinate web development refresh activities and migrations. We aren't following formal project management activities.

Many job ads want a strict project manager or a strict developer. I wouldn't consider myself either and I'm not sure how to position myself in an interview for a strict role like Project Manager or Developer? Going for either role would make me look under qualified in comparison to other candidates. How do I better sell myself or position myself when I'm probably not going to be the most highly qualified candidate because of the role and experience I'm currently in?

I'm interested in making a career change and would like to open up my own office in the area. I've thought about some different careers that allow you to be your own boss, but I think there may be others that haven't come to mind.

Right now, I work in marketing and public relations (think editorial/copywriting) for a small organization in a somewhat rural area and I'm ready to branch out on my own. I know I can't open up a proofreading shop (haha!), so I think I'll need to do a complete 180 and start fresh -- something I'm actually looking forward to doing.

I love meeting with people and getting a sense of responsibility for providing them with a useful or helpful service. I'm very willing to go back to school to achieve my new goal. Here's what I've come up with. Can you add to it?
* CPA
* Attorney
* Marriage & Family Counselor
* Physical Therapist
* Massage Therapist

I am currently on sick leave from work with stress. I have provided my employer with the relevant doctors note which tells me to refrain from work for 2 weeks. This is the second 2 week note that I have handed in. The note runs out this Thusday.

During this period I have been paid full sick pay by my employer. However, I received a telephone call from my manager earlier today to tell me that this Thusday will be the end of my sick pay entitlement (1 month) and I will only be paid SSP from that point until my return to work.

I dont have a contract as it is only a small company. Is it right that he can stop my sick pay and put me on SSP or am i entitled to full pay for a longer period ?

I cannot affor dto be off work only receiving SSP and feel that it is forcing me back to work.

I live in Canada, and I've worked here for less than a year. The employee contract I was given does not mention the amount of notice I must give. I seem to remember reading that if I have not worked a full year, I don't have to give any notice, but if they lose money because I quit without notice, they can sue. On the other hand, two weeks seems to be the norm.

...the telemarketing corporation that I was an independant contractor for does not verify these types of things. I am trying to begin my new accounting career, but "Jeremy," the man at the temp service says to me "We will DEFINITELY have to have a reference from this company." I had already told Jeremy beforehand that the company does not do that. What should I do. Is this just a rejection in diguise, being that he is asking me to do the impossible? Or should I show him my tax forms from the company and a copy of the telemarketing corporations' policy on this matter, or should I just have him call a made up company (so that he will think he is calling them)?

I work in a medical office, I come to work everyday with a good attitude, several of my coworkers come in with terrible attitudes, complaining before they even start working!! I hear things like, " I am already ready to walk out of here!" or "so and so shoves half her work off on me" I just keep my mouth shut, do my job and observe, but the truth is, neither one of these coworkers seems to have anything to complain about, their jobs are no worse or better than anyone else's here. I really think they just like to act like drama queens to get sympathy!!! Should I respond to this whining or just ignore it instead of feeding into their pity parties?? What would you do?

Why do men identify themselves and their persona with their job?

As a woman, a job is a job that needs doing, not nessasarily who I am or what I am about. Why do men tend to profile their lives after their jobs?
