Accept a promotion at your current workplace (the one you've been waiting for for 1yr, after you've been working under the promoted tasks and not getting paid for it)? OR accept a position at a prestigious finiancial firm 45 minutes further away from your home (newly married, young child)?

I'm really stuck- the new position would be great because working for this company is like attending an ivy league school. It'll look FANTASTIC on a resume in the future, and give me all the work experience I need now for professional growth in today's corporate environment.. If I stay where I am, I have a 15 minute commute to/from work, in a stable work environment that promotes growth but doesn't follow through with it.

My boss says that I should be in the office and ready to work by 9 on the dot - and that I should only put on my coat and pack up, etc AFTER five. This essentially adds 15 minutes onto my working day that I don't get paid for. Is this legal?

when I say "may I ask who's calling" some smart butts say no you may not. When I ask"may I tell him who's calling" same answer. When I just say"who's calling please" some people say why do you want to know. I am frustrated. Please give me a good phrase to say;o)

Right now I'm working this company for 1 1/2 years, my boss is a great guy, but i was hired to be his assistant's assistant. She has trust issues, and tends to hog up the work. I have to email her sometimes to ask her if i still have the task. She has been working for the company for 10 yrs so he listens to her everytime she has a peeve about me.

I had my review last wk and i only got a $0.15 increase. ANyway, there is a job open paying $4.00 more per hour, and it's located even closer to my home than this one. The problem is big though..THE COMPANY HIRING IS ONE OF OUR MAJOR CONTRACTORS AND WE MEET WITH THEM EVERY WEEK. ACTUALLY THE GUY FROM THE CONTRACTOR COMPANY'S WIFE IS THE ONE THAT IS DOING THE HIRING. I dont know if she will tell her husband that i am applying and he will tell my boss. I am single parent and i could really use the money!!! What should i do??? Please help, I am sweating bullets here. My mom says that it is too close & that i may lose my current jb

Ok... anyway, I'm feeling sick... I'm coming down with a cough (I must have caught it from another lady at my other job)... I work in a small office and there is only one other lady that works with me, she comes in one hour (she is older, like late 50's or early 60's)... Last time I was sick (cough) I got her sick too....and we were both sick for a month (and she got her 80 yr. old mom sick too). Should I go home? I don't want to get her sick!! Should I just start coughing when she comes in? I don't want to be here anyway, it's MONDAY!!! What is the best way to get the hell out of here?

I am a secretary and three years ago my company was making people redundant and also accepting voluntary redundancy. At that time my boss resigned and my department was reorganised leaving me in effect without a job. I asked to take voluntary redundancy but the company refused and put me in a position on a lower grade and my salary has been frozen ever since. My salary has been frozen as it is at the top of the scale for this lower grade and I have to wait for people to catch up. Unfortunately at the time I did sign a letter to accept the new position, but I just want to to clarify that a company can legally freeze your salary and put you on a lower grade just because somebody else has left the company? I suspect because I signed the letter they can, but morally I think it stinks.
