Right now I'm working this company for 1 1/2 years, my boss is a great guy, but i was hired to be his assistant's assistant. She has trust issues, and tends to hog up the work. I have to email her sometimes to ask her if i still have the task. She has been working for the company for 10 yrs so he listens to her everytime she has a peeve about me.

I had my review last wk and i only got a $0.15 increase. ANyway, there is a job open paying $4.00 more per hour, and it's located even closer to my home than this one. The problem is big though..THE COMPANY HIRING IS ONE OF OUR MAJOR CONTRACTORS AND WE MEET WITH THEM EVERY WEEK. ACTUALLY THE GUY FROM THE CONTRACTOR COMPANY'S WIFE IS THE ONE THAT IS DOING THE HIRING. I dont know if she will tell her husband that i am applying and he will tell my boss. I am single parent and i could really use the money!!! What should i do??? Please help, I am sweating bullets here. My mom says that it is too close & that i may lose my current jb

The only way I would go for it is if I thought I could get a totally different job if the new one fell through and I lost the old one!

And most prospective employers should respect the fact that your job search is confidential once you include that fact in your cover letter!

Good luck!

Thats a hard one. If you feel pretty trusting to the woman who is doing the hiring, you could ask her not to tell anyone that you are applying because you don't want anything to effect your job.

I know the extra money sounds really good. But money isn't everything. If you have a lot of perks to the job you have now, and they are really understanding when you leave early...you might not get so lucky with this other job. Most of the time the more money you make, the less freedome they give you.

But you really just have to go with your gut. If it's going to better for you and your child then apply.

Check on your hiring conditions. Sometimes when you are hired by a companys you are not allowed to accept job offers with a contractor your currnt employer works with until after 6 months of leaving your current position. Check it out, if you are okay to apply, go for it.

Most companies are very understanding. When you have the interview mention that your boss doesn't know of you wanting to move to another company yet, so you would appreciate it if they didn't contact your company. They shouldn't.

Go for the job! Being a single mom you need it!

Go for it! The job is a lot more money and closer to work. Ask her not to tell your Boss so he don't get mad. Myself I would just try to get the job and not mention anything. Just keep in mind it is hard to find good help and I would think they would keep you regardless if you applied for another job. Good luck

When you are doing the interview, let her know not to contact your current job. They will surely understand why they shouldn't!
