I currently work for a company as a temp, recently a position became available in the company and I applied for it. Now I was told my someone else that I should speak to the boss who oversees this department. Just want to know what should I say to him?

You should tell him that you have applied for the position indicating that you are a temp and how long you have been with the company you can also state what you hope to contribute to his department.
Out of courtesy, you may also inform your present boss of your decision to apply for the vacant post in the company.

tell him nicely that you are interested in the other position which you feel match your interests and personality closer
