I want to enlist in the Marines as a Machine Gunner (Ive talked to a recruiter, taken the ASVAB, and can pass the Initial Strength Test easy), so theres no problem for enlisting.

But I want to start getting an associates degree WHILE Im in the Corps; what is something fairly easy to get on base or online? I know thats kind of broad but help me out here. I would want to get an associates degree in Criminal Justice or something hands on, your not necessarily doing paper work day after day after day. Any hints?

There is a vacancy in the institution I work in which is one grade up than my present position, it has more responsbilities including staff and operation, and a bit more money. A good opps for self development and I want to take the challenge.

I like the boss, and I think I can work well with her. It seems that this job offers everything I desire - satisfaction, good working relationship, opps to contribute and a great boss. Although I enjoy what I'm doing now, the team never gets along with each other very well.

However, I don't know why I'm a bit hesitated. The job is also open to external candidates and there are few colleagues acting for the post already. I don't know if I stand a good chance.

I am confident in doing well and sort of confident that the boss knows of my ability. If I do not get it at the end, I will remain in the same team (which never gets along, and rumours will be flying everywhere). Does it matter? any views?

It seems to me that with my Social Security and birthdate they can find out everything I have ever done, where I have worked, been fired, married, assets, debts, etc. so my question is: are they actually looking for how forthcoming I am in answering the questions? Are they actually looking to see if I tell the truth in filling out the paperwork, is that the real test? I have been background checked before but this is really extensive. And what percent of the references will they actually contact? This is for a confidential City position

Used to work for a FURNITURE STORE that's barely on the works and claims to one of the largest furniture stores in Southern Ca. Well, this store is nice but the people they so call managers are terrible at their job. There are to many cover-ups and corruption in that workplace. People had quit do to poor management and they let go of people that actually do well work performance. I know, I used to be in the Human Resource dept.
They have terminated people due to no reason and expect them to sign a Change of Relation. I was let go due to: Position terminated. Month later after my termination; I find out that they have a sales level person taking care of a Adminstrative Assistant position. what? Don't understand what's going on! The people they should be firing are the ones that have been complained about'; but are still there. If customers would know of how things are run at the store.. I'm sure they would not SHOP there!!

In my case I have been at my job for almost a year and was preparing to ask my boss about a raise, since I came in at the bottom of the pay-scale and not have more responsibilities then I did initially.
As my company has not supplied an employee handbood in recent years I asked someone else what our company's policy and protocol were for this; If I should go through HR or straight to my boss with my back-up paperwork and my request.
Well, the boss heard it from the other person before I could make my presentation so I feel a little sheepish.

In this case would you go ahead with your request or would you just sit back on it and wait or your boss to bring it up?

My father-in-law is getting ready to graduate from an alcohol drug studies program to be a counselor. He is blind. An issue someone brought up to him is "how are you going to be able to do the charting"? Due to confidentiality laws he can't have a transcriber in the meetings with him. Does anybody have any ideas on what he could do to create charts? Keep in mind he will need to be able to access them also. Do you have any other ideas on things he can do?

I will soon complete a law degree at Oxford and then have plans to seek employment in the Middle East. I already have much family in the region as i am half Lebanese...many of whom work in Qatar and dubai and other small emirates. What employment prospects would i get in such gulf countries with my degree and would it be regarded very hgihly? I have heard that degrees speak volumes in the middle east, and was wondering if anybody had any insights to add. Are the salaries much greater for jobs such as lawyer or investment bankers? I do understand that much of the finaical benefit is felt due to the absence of income tax but what are the differentials in salary? I am just curious about whether to remain in England and search for a job or move out.. I also love the culture and feel it would be a great experience. If it helps, my potential career will almost certainly be either lawyer or investment banker. Thoughts/experiences would be appreciated. Many thanks, Steve
