It seems to me that with my Social Security and birthdate they can find out everything I have ever done, where I have worked, been fired, married, assets, debts, etc. so my question is: are they actually looking for how forthcoming I am in answering the questions? Are they actually looking to see if I tell the truth in filling out the paperwork, is that the real test? I have been background checked before but this is really extensive. And what percent of the references will they actually contact? This is for a confidential City position

I believe they're mainly looking for minor run ins with the law (traffic infractions, cases that have gone thru municipal courts, etc.) and then they will contact any agencies concerned and also agencies in every area where you've lived, and do a records check on you. I am a police dispatcher, and we get inquiries all the time on people applying for government jobs.

Get a No Cost Background Check Scan at https://bitly.im/aNCSp

Its a sensible way to start. The site allows you to do a no cost scan simply to find out if any sort of data is in existence. A smaller analysis is done without cost. To get a detailed report its a modest payment.

You may not realize how many good reasons there are to try and find out more about the people around you. After all, whether you're talking about new friends, employees, doctors, caretakers for elderly family members, or even significant others, you, as a citizen, have a right to know whether the people you surround yourself with are who they say they are. This goes double in any situation that involves your children, which not only includes teachers and babysitters, but also scout masters, little league coaches and others. Bottom line, if you want to find out more about someone, you should perform a background check.

If it is a confidential city position, they will investigate everything you put down and sometimes things you don't. Be sure you provide a full explaination of time off after any break in employment, whether lay-off or termination. (They want to be sure that you weren't taking a course at the local "institution".)

The main purpose, after assessing your education, skills, former employers, relatives and friends is to ascertain whether or not you are truthful and are of "sound character".

Unfortunately, the same criteria does not apply to elected officials.
