I am working in corporate finance in an investment firm and am very satisfied with my job. However, I always dreamt of getting a doctorate. People are telling me it is useless in a corporate world, but I just do not want to believe them. Can anybody help me in generating reasons or motivations for me taking a doctoral degree in business/finance? Thanks! Ten points for the best answer!

I need some good solid advice for what to do in this situation as it keeps happening to me at this technical, non customer service job.
We have SOP’s (Standard Operating Proceedure – basically directions), we are told to follow the SOP's and in fact make 'mistakes' that the managers bring to our attention if we do not follow these SOP's.
Tonight, I had a situation where I followed an SOP and as soon as I was done I was told by the 'lead', who functions as my supervisor so they only have to have one manager, "You cannot just blindly follow SOP's! You should ask!". I was told this because about a year ago, before I was here, an email came to this person saying to deviate from the SOP. I would not have gotten this email, and the SOP was never updated, there was also no way to know now to follow it. I have been told by managers that I must follow the SOP's, and I have been told by co-workers it is always best to follow SOPs as you cannot get into trouble for it.
So, I cannot follow them without asking, I cannot not follow them, it is not feasable to ask about 300 times a shift if it is ok to do what the SOP says to do.
This happens at least once a week with this person, and I have been at the job less than 3 months. I am basically in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation and I am not sure, after 15+ years in the corporate world how to handle this particular situation. So - what would you do, aside from finding a better job, in this situation?
I need some advice on how to handle this person when they being talking to me like I am a particularly stupid child who has to have a reminder note to breathe because that is how they speak to me every time this happens and then they get upset because I naturally mirror people (trust me, it is not a good instinct in this case!)

I graduated from a very reputable school. I passed the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Board Exam in just one take and I got a good average. ever since I was in college, people always tell me I'm smart. Now, my career hasn't been off to a good start. It started with an unchallenging job, then me being stupid coz I turned down an interview with a big and famous auditing firm.

I so regret that I turned down their offer. I did it coz I was stupid and naive and I thought that if I did accept it, I might lose the job I had already secured.

In my second job, I was told to file a forced resignation.

In my third job, I'm very much underpaid, I tried and tried so hard to look for another job. I'm so tired already. There's this company I like but they're looking for fresh grads. It's too bad because the compensation is really good.

Considering my qualifications, i should be receiving 250% of what I receive now. What should i do? I feel so down.

my son had been working a this job for 2months his supervisor "just kidding"so he said, would continue to call him names like no good, worthless and on and on. he said he was just kidding but enough was enough. last week while at work he called my son a worthless n-word, my son told him he better just shutup and knock it off, but he didnt and he didnt have to because there was nothing he could do about it cause he was a lazy wothless n-word. well my son had finally just had enough and knocked the **** out of him a couple of times and he fired him. told him to get his stuff and find his own way home which was about 1 1/2hrs. away. he walked about 10 miles and then a friend finally got there to get him. the next morning my son got up and went to the boss to tell him what had happened and was told to get the f--k out of his office. were not exactly sure what the supervisor told him. where can we turn for some help and sweet justice? what would you do?

Here's my question/conern:
I just got hired into a finance firm, and I work in a CUBICLE for about 8 to 10 hours each day. Sitting about 7 feet behind me is a very large and NOISY printer that has an internal fan running all day inside of it. I try to ignore it, but, it's not easy. I asked my manager if the printer can be moved to another location. She said no, but did offer me the option to switch MY location. So, naturally, I did. The new cubicle wasn't without IT'S fair share of problems. The A/C made the spot very chilly, and, since it is away from the printer, you can now clearly hear the office's fluxtuating A/C system- sounds like "brrrrrrr, ::pause::, brrrrrrr, ::pause, brrrrr..." So, now I have a dilemma. Stay with the Printer, or move to icy-annoying land. I am afraid that if I move, I will find the new spot as WORSE, and then the OLD spot (next to the printer) will be taken up by someone else. help...SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

I am currenly working as a restaurant hostess to a very well known hotel...unfortunally, I have an 18 year old next to me as a co-worker on the am shift which acts very unprofessional and she is always on the phone with her boyfriend...I tried reporting some of the things to the higher managers but the excuse she came out was that she is young and of course I was told to be patient with her and teach her the right way...in the mean time I was not given the tittle as a manager when I cover all the responsibilities...
should I stay there and be patient...or dissapear?

My new boss is really nice & likes me a lot. He always says I'm doing a great job & even sent me on a business trip my 1st week.
Ok so his assistant is the problem. She is so nasty. There are many little things to learn at work like all sorts of codes and passwords on the computers, and if I have to show customers items in glass cases there are like 50 keys (unlabled of course) etc. etc. So I have to ask questions sometimes (not excessive) and whenever I do, this assistant makes me feel like I am an idiot for even asking, I always get a nasty look etc. Also whenever I do something for her, she never thanks me. Also when I say thank you for helping me, she never says you're welcome, or anything encouraging but acts like I'm just wasting her precious time & I get another dirty look. I don't think she's ever smiled. And if I make a mistake, I get of course sighs, eyes roll, etc.

And although she's generally nasty, I feel like she treats me much worse than other employees. Why?
