I am currenly working as a restaurant hostess to a very well known hotel...unfortunally, I have an 18 year old next to me as a co-worker on the am shift which acts very unprofessional and she is always on the phone with her boyfriend...I tried reporting some of the things to the higher managers but the excuse she came out was that she is young and of course I was told to be patient with her and teach her the right way...in the mean time I was not given the tittle as a manager when I cover all the responsibilities...
should I stay there and be patient...or dissapear?

Be patient.

This sounds like this is her first job and she needs a lot of help along the way. If you encourage her and give her some sound advice she will eventually change. But remember she has to do the changing. You cannot do it for her.

Keep informing her of her unprofessional behavior. Be open, direct, and honest with her.

If you are a Manager than it is your responsibility to empower and develop your staff in a professional manner.

Do what you think is best and if you need coaching ask your direct Manager for assistance.

Hope all works out for you!

God Bless.

Well, quitting is always an option, as you said. Your decision to quit can be based on whether the amount of pay/tips you are getting fits the amount of work you are doing. Ignoring how the way you think the other person is getting paid isn't fair, think, Is the amount I'm getting paid worth the job I'm doing? If not, talk to management and ask for a raise. Or quit and find a better job.

The questions to answer your question are: What are your options? Are they better than what you have right now?

Explore part-time business with MLM. When you build it enough to replace your income at the hotel, then you can leave without thinking if you should. A website I recommend is www.network-marketing-works.com to learn about MLM. Good luck.

Depends on how long you've worked there. If you've been there for a while, you could talk to upper managmet and explain how you feel. Or you could transfer to a different department where they would appreciate you more. I have found that if people won't work with you after you talk to them about it, then it's best to leave.

If the person who gave the excuse was your boss, look for another job, if the excuse was from the girl, you should have a seriosu talk with your boss about the conduct of this girl.
