If I am correct, the LSE quotes its prices in pence and a pence is 1/100th of a British pound (like a cent is to a dollar). So as an example Tesco is trading at 435. This is 435 pence so that is 4.35 pounds which at the current exchange rate of 2 pounds to 1 dollar is about just $9.7. Is that correct? Why then are stock prices so much lower in the UK than they are in the US? Or am I mistaken about that?

I own a small business and would like to donate a gift basket for a fundraiser at my child's school. My question is, when a business donates something or sponsers something, what is the proper thing to do as far as getting your business name mentioned? I mean, should I attach a business card to the basket, or is that considered kind of tacky? I really don't know. Any small business owners out there who have participated in such things, please advise!

4 siblings inherited a house (trust). Now one sibling is buying the rest out with a loan. Do the siblings that are receiving a lump payment for their portion of the house have to pay taxes on this amount? What type of taxes? What can they do to prevent from having to pay that many taxes (reinvest within 30 days). Only serious answers please. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I don't think capitol gains is an issue, because the mother just died, and there was no increase in value of the house since she died, and now.

The person I was in an accident with is taking me to court to try and get $3300 for the damages. Now I know his vehicle is not worth more than $1000. Could that mean that I can pay the price that the car books for and then he will have to give me the title, like insurance companies do?

My girlfriend and I's 9 month lease at our apartment (approx 1300 sq. ft.) recently ran out, and we switched to a month to month lease because we were planning on buying a home soon. The first month to month bill came and it was an "in between" bill, letting us know that the rent would increase. Our old rate was 850/mo and the first bill said 950/mo. I went to the leasing office and asked what the mo 2 mo rate would be and they said 1050/mo. We decided to pursue a 9 mo lease and have went to the office 3 or 4 times in the past 2 weeks to see if anything has developed. No luck. The rent bill for this mo came a couple of days ago and it says 2000/mo (yes, you read that right). I went to the office to tell them of their "error" and I was promptly informed that the mo 2 mo rent was 2050 instead of 1050. It's quite frustrating and I would like some advice as to what to do. Thanks for your help! :)

Last year (my first year in the organization) I have been awarded an 8% salary increase. This year it is only 5 %. At the same time I receive more commissions now because I have more of my projects developed. What that decrease in the salary increase could mean? Could that indicate that I am not considered a important employee as I used to be considered last year. Shall I discuss this with my manager

i have been an employee for 10 years at the same job. i make $10.00 per hour. when i started, i was at minimum wage which i think was $6.25. what i was wondering is, can they legally pay a person so little that has so much experience. i know another person has worked there for 12 years and makes $11.50 an hour. we both love what we do and where we work, it just something we were curious about. we work at a small store

She just moved in, permanently. I love her to death, however I think we should split the costs - so far I've been paying the mortgage, monthly assesment, utilities, etc. I do not know how to do it, especially after what she just told me - she needs the bathrooms remodeled, for starters, and her Dad has offered to do it for free provided I buy all the materials. Honestly, I think both bathrooms are ok, I also noticed my girlfriend does laundry, takes care of the meals, etc.
We've been together for almost 8 months, but we're pretty close, however I've never lived with anyone since I got my own apartment.
Should she pay for the mortgage, or just the rent?
She earns almost twice as much, by the way.
What arguments shall I use?
