I think I get most of it, but how does the company I'm trading in benefit when I buy or sell shares? Surely I am buying and selling to other individuals and the company itself is irrelevant to the trade? Doesn't it just mean the company value is kept track of?

Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with?

I am in a situation where I will seeemingly soon face foreclosure. I watched an info-mercial on setting up a corporation and getting corporate credit. The idea was to stop doing as much as possible in you personal name. Including filing for bankruptcy, etc. My ultimate scenario would be to (1) form a corporation, (2) put the home in the name of the corporation, and (3) have the corporation file bankruptcy , (4) dissolve the corporation. I am wondering if this will affect me porsonally at all.

Also, I am looking to form a seperate corporation strictly for obtaining up to $500,000 in corporate credit. This would be to help my wife and I start two businesses (1) a shoe boutique for her and (2) a lounge/bar for me.

I have been approved to move into a privately owned building... the owner lives out of state... she told me to look over the apartment one more time before I signed the lease to see if there was anything I was concerned about. I met with the manager and she took me to look over the apartment. The carpet had been cleaned but the apartment had not been painted. Even though it wasn't really dirty I noticed some new spackle over a few places where the last tenant had lived there. I asked the manager whether the apartment would be painted before we moved in... of course she didn't know... She checked with the owner who apparently said she was not going to paint the apartment but I could tell her which parts of the aparment I want to have painted. I thought landlords have to paint an apartment between tenants for health reasons... Is she violating regulations... My husband really wants us to move into this apartment so I don't know how much to push this owner... What is your advice?

off rights to the home. However, they are sending mail with both our names on it and naming him in the process. what does this mean? I purchased the house alone, why are they also naming him? Does this mean that he could possible have a foreclosure, too, even though none of his credit information was used to purchase the home. Please help...

I am mad that I spent so much $ on Class A mutual funds and want to dump my brokerage firm and start investing the smart way. I have read that equity index funds and no-load mutual funds are the way to go, but I have no idea where to go or which funds to buy. I just want to put my money away in aggressive investments and let the money sit there and reinvest the dividends. I don't want to buy and sell stocks - I would rather put it in diversified funds and just let it grow. I have 30 years to retirement so I want to be as aggressive as possible. Seems like if I ask a financial "expert," they just want to sell you their own products. Is anyone out there a financial expert who can give me objective advice??? HELP! I have a couple of IRAs and about $200K in mutual funds right now. Thank you!!!

I'm too young to retire at this point and would rather invest this money in a manner that will allow it to double or triple in the next few decades. What is the best investment strategy? Also, should I spread this money among several banks? I don't like the idea of keeping my eggs in one basket; especially since the FDIC only covers $100k per depositor. I'm smart enough to avoid the lure of a huge house and a Ferrari at this point, so I'm looking for sensible advice. Thanks.

Hi all -
I am applying for a management trainee position. I submitted my cover letter and resume last week and will be calling the employer soon to follow-up and ask for an interview. I ended my cover letter saying, "I will follow up with you next week to discuss the possibility of arranging a personal interview at your convenience."

What exactly do I say when calling so that I don't sound too wordy or desperate?

My husband was laid off this summer and we're behind on our mortgage. Not enough to be in jeopardy, in fact, only by one month. It is causing an additional $60 late fee each month, but we just cannot get caught up. He has since found a new job and we are now struggling with whether or not we should rollover his 401K with the new employer, or should we take the money and catch up on our mortgage?

Her great aunt lived in New Jersey (which has an inheritance tax), but my finace lives in New York. New York does not have an inheritance tax. Also, if there is a tax, when is it collected? Are there any ways around the tax?
