I'm afraid it is just unenforceable. Not that I'm not talking about race and gender, but about nepotism and favoritism.

Over the course of time I am sure there will be more laws put on the book or expanded on. One bill that I am particularly interested in is The Healthy Workplace Anti-Bullying Act which would ensure everyone is covered and you do not have to be in a protected class. Another one recently that passed the legislative house was the Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Some feel these laws should be completely obsolete, but to do so would take us back to a time where discrimination and abuses were absolutely common place and out of control. Abuses still exist, but the smarter companies do everything in there power to make sure it is not happening in their organization.

I'd hope that at some time they wouldn't be necessary, that everyone will be judged on their own merits without any consideration of race, gender, etc. Unfortunately that's probably a ways off yet, although things are a lot better than they were 50 years or so ago.

To Winston: there AREN'T laws against nepotism and favoritism.
