Last year my husband (then boyfriend) got a $4500 return. He only claimed himself all year on his paychecks (witholding for 1) Then tax return time claimed our daughter.

This year he claimed himself & also our daughter (witholding for 2)

Does this mean he cannot claim her as a dependant come tax return time? Will we now get a really small return? He will make about $23,000. In July federal had taken out $800.

I had an account with a bank and the account was closed due to being overdrawn for a long period of time. They reported me to a collection agency and from there I paid the account in full.

I assumed the bank reported me to chexsystems, but when I recently got my credit report the collection agency was NOT listed nor did it show I was in chexsystems.

So I decided to see if I could open an account at another bank and I was able to open it with no problems- (no chexsystems hit)

Any guess as to what happened, has this happened to anyone where the bank didn't report you to chexsystems as thought

Note: I got my credit report from Experian, the time period between my account being closed and the money being paid was a year and 1 week after it being paid in full to the agency I opened an account at another bank

My question is, our deal is nearing the 30 contingency period and the load application is almost approved besides the bank property inspection. However our due diligence uncovered some soil contamination and we might break the deal? Do we still have to pay for the loan application, appraisal, or anything having to do with the loan? I mean basically,we waisted their time....

my daughter has recently split up with her boyfriend, and she is panic stricken, as she now has to sort things out financially on her own. she cries a lot, and i worry about her. we can sort some of the problems out she has, but are not clued up on what to do about her car? her car is on finance, and she just cant afford to pay for it anymore. would she be able to ask the car dealer to take it back, if so, would she be expected to pay a one off fee? could she suggest a one off payment or would it have to come off them? all monies are accounted for, she cant even offer a lesser payment. help!!

I havn't gotten around to reading it but if someone is familiar with this could you briefly explain the logic or facts behind this argument. Also, if it's true why is our country not goign crazy about this?

Okay, so if you look at my questions, you can tell, we all hate my landlord. Anyway. He intends on raising rent $200 - $400 within the next 2-3 months I am hearing. Anyhow, I reserached the laws in California and it said that IF the increase is MORE than 10% of the LOWEST rent paid in the last 12 months, then he has to give us 60 days notice.Well, 10% of $1200 IS $120 so yea, his intended increase IS MORE than $120. Am I right? He is telling everyone that he only has to give a 30 day notice?? WTF?

I live in the Chicagoland area. We already have one of the highest if not the highest taxes on cigarrettes in the country. They are proposing another $1 raise in the tax. I think we already pay like 3x the amount of money in taxes as the product costs. I know people don't like smokers but the government shouldn't keep going after smokers because they can't properly manage their money. Aren't there laws about unfair taxes? Wouldn't all these taxes on ciggarrettes violate this law as every 6 months they are propsoing to raise the taxes another dollar.

Should I keep the truck balance where it is at $27,700 at 5.34% for 72 months ($470/month) or should I transfer some of that over to a credit card and have the truck be $17K at 5.34% and have $10.7K at 3.3% for life with the credit card?

I'm not sure if the interest is calculated the same, or if this would save me a bit of money. I am not interested in lower payments, just saving some money on interest.

My friend has one child who is a ward of the state. My friend has two jobs, and the state is taking 17% out of both of his paychecks for one child. The money is going to the mother, and not the child. My friend is wondering if this is legal in the state of wisconsin. Would anybody have any information on this or would you have any resource websites that you could lead me to with some kind of answers for this?

A collection agency called me today. This is the first time they've called and they have not sent me anything in the mail. They gave me the name of their company and wanted me verify my social security number. I have never heard of this company so I refused to verify anything. She would not give me any more information. Do collection agencies have to inform me of the company they represent before I verify my social security number? Also, they called earlier today and let the phone ring once and then hung up. Then when they called the second time I was able to answer, but she hung up on me because I wouldn't verify. Is this considered harrassment?

I'm a junior in college studying communications with emphasis in public relations and photography, and a minor in international business. i've also had 3 semesters of statistics and 3 semesters of french. ive also been really involved on campus such as worked for the admissions office, campus news station, done service projects, and i studied abroad in france for a semester. I'm thinking of switching my major to public relations because it seems like that is a more marketable major. I was also wondering if you would recommend getting a full minor in statistics vs. only 3 semesters of it, or if 3 semesters is enough to make me more marketable? I'm not entirely sure what I want to do once I'm done with college, or what options there are for a communications major, but I want to have a good job in a city once I'm done. Suggestions? Is my degree strong?

I live in Texas. My roommate is moving out this friday, our lease is up in March 2008. He is moving out because I caught him stealing from me and confronted him about it (he denied it in the face of blatant evidence). I didn't even ask him to move out, he came up with that on his own because we aren't "getting along". He is going to continue to pay rent until the lease expires, but does not want to pay any more utilities. The cable is in my name, the electric in his and the water/ trash in both of our names. I am canceling the cable and he said he is canceling the electric bill and I need to get one in my name. I signed up for a 13 month lease with bills split evenly between the two of us. I understand he feels he doesn't have to pay because he will no longer be there, but why should I have to pay more for his choice? I don't think I can afford the extra bills. Is he in any way legally bound to half of the electric/ water bills?
