First let me state categorically for the record, I was NEVER a REAL doctor, I just played one in the military.
Yes, doctors do get vacation time. It depends on the practice for which they work and the hospital they associate. Some hospitals require that they take a rotation of saturdays and/or E.R. on nights and weekends. Although, the latter they are moving away from as they have an emergency Services Department with their own staff of physicians.
When I had my practice, I got the customary one month a year vacation, but it had to be planned around whatever the military had going on AND, I was required to cover for those who were assigned to me when they wanted vacation. I was one of the fortunate few who was still able to arrange my daily schedule so that I was in at 7AM and done by noon. I didn't work evenings, nights or weekends.

doctors are allowed vacations and weekends off. Just depends on the company you work for. Just the kicker is that you are almost always on call!!
It just depends on what the different country requires. I would definetely check in to it before you cross the american line.

Take whatever vacations you want, but you will probably need to have someone cover for you.

Have you ever seen a doctor? Were they always available?
