A mason was working on my neighbor's house and asked me if he could do some work for me to. As I was leaving for work, he said that he was almost done except for some touch up that he would finish the next day and would really appreciate getting paid immediately, because as he had mentioned earlier his wife is in the hospital getting a hysterectomy and he has to pay a bill soon . I gave him the full payment. Less than half the work was done and he does not answer any phone calls. My neighbor reports a similar experience. The worker even borrowed a couple of my things and seems to have taken some other items as well. Can I say sue him without an address or prevent him from conning other individuals by reporting him to something more than just the better business bureau? Do banks have any process through which checks to dishonest fly by night repair men would be delayed in clearing after proper police and other paperwork is filed? Any advice would be very appreciated!

This is basically about a small business that the owner and one employee run, and both have to be there to get the work done.

What do small business owners do when their employee calls in sick or otherwise doesn't show up to work on short notice?

Hey guys, I'm 19 years old and am planning on investing $1,000 into the stock market. The hardest part about this is: Where do I begin? Are there any sites where I can open a portfolio free of charge or with a small fee, such as e-trade? Are there any websites that I can use as a step-by-step guide till I collect some dividends? (haha)

Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!

I have gotten in over my head.Started out with one loan for an emergency..Could'nt pay it so took another loan to pay it, then another to pay it.Now I am trapped in 4 loans. Paying $76 each every two weeks to extend it (them) for another two weeks. Over $300 each payday. What will happen to me if I close my bank account? Will I go to jail? I am so scared, but am about 30 minutes away from being homeless because of this mess. This last payday, I went without any food for two weeks, living off of what my co-workers didnt eat from thier lunch. This is pitiful..I could not even buy myself something off of the dollar menu.....Can anyone tell me if I will go to jail. I am 50 years old and have never ever been in any trouble...I am in such a deserate state over all this mess.

I saw a Pizza Hut commercial which specifically used the Papa John's logo, as well as Domino's, and those respective companies' fonts. This is the case for Pepsi and Coke as well. So, why then, is this OK, but TV shows have to use obvious pseudonyms like "Roke" or "Fountain Dew"?
