I've been studying English for quite a long time but I've really grown tired of spending money on language courses abroad when I could very well practise the language by living in the UK and mixing with Brits, earning money to live on in the meantime!

However, I wouldn't know how to go about finding a summer job in the UK (not necessarily London). All the people I've heard of got their jobs by chance and usually ended up working at McDonald's, Burger King and the like, which, much as I respect people working there, isn't quite what I'm looking for since it wouldn't give me the chance of practising the language as much as I would like to.

What, frankly, could I actually aspire to? And, most importantly, could anyone suggest what I should do in order to safely find a job, possibly even before leaving for the UK? Thank you.

By the way, I'm Italian.

My employer failed to pay me my wages I worked in an independant school I didn't get paid for July or August then he contacted me apologised and asked me to go back in September he promised to pay what he owed as soon as the funding came through.
In September guess what I didn't get paid. He said the bank took all of his money to cover his overdraft. He said as much as he would like to pay us he can't give us what he doesn't have. He then had the cheek to ask us to work on a voluntary basis until he can get himself straight.
He and his wife are still driving around in their Jeep's and he has started a new business which I believe is thriving.
He said if we try to take him to court he will put the company into liquidation and we will get nothing.
Also he isn't giving out any references to prospective employers.
I really don't know how to deal with this. I have got another job but I want the money he owes me it is after all 3 months wages and I can't afford to lose that.

I'm the only girl in my team at the job I work at in a factory . And I have been at this new job for a month now. I have gotten to know that attitudes of my coworkers and in particular 2 who think it is funny to laugh at me and act childish when I make a mistake, or misunderstand what someone is saying. We wear earplugs so it is very hard to understand. One coworker called me a moron when there was a forklift behind me and I didnt see it, he didn't even tell me to move he just said "Hey Moron" infront of everyone, then he said im stubborn or something, he isn't very good in english but I know what he says. The 2nd guy just laughs at me if he says something I don't understand or if I make a mistake, he does this thing with his hand and points at his face making circles, which means retarded in child language, and he continues to laugh. At the same time he tells me "do u ever listen?" I'm not close with either of these people. But I laugh it off when I feel like crap. Advice?

Whilst on holiday in spain over xmas the house i rent was broken into, ive had to pay £140 to have the window boarded and the cost of replacement glass, my landlord refuses to meet the costs and says i should have "renters insurance", is this not covered by the landlords buildings insurance ??

Out landlord is being taken to court (end of Jan) for not paying his mortgage (God knows what he's been doing with my £800 a month!)
