I've been studying English for quite a long time but I've really grown tired of spending money on language courses abroad when I could very well practise the language by living in the UK and mixing with Brits, earning money to live on in the meantime!

However, I wouldn't know how to go about finding a summer job in the UK (not necessarily London). All the people I've heard of got their jobs by chance and usually ended up working at McDonald's, Burger King and the like, which, much as I respect people working there, isn't quite what I'm looking for since it wouldn't give me the chance of practising the language as much as I would like to.

What, frankly, could I actually aspire to? And, most importantly, could anyone suggest what I should do in order to safely find a job, possibly even before leaving for the UK? Thank you.

By the way, I'm Italian.

I would avoid the cities and head for the coast. All the coastal resorts take on people for the summer, hotels, shops, arcades, burger stalls etc. Get hold of a magazine called Hotel and Caterer. It is very good for jobs. Another approach is to decide where you want to go and try the local job centres in the town, or the tourist office. Look at hotel websites, they will recruit for summer and often give you somewhere to live. At the end of the season when you have saved some money, then go to the cities.

Immediate starts, they're always lookin for pickers and packers- and if ur english isn't great it dont matter cuz u dont need to speak in warehouse work:)
