Very much so.

If you don't have a well above average GPA or don't come from an ivy league school, don't bother applying at big firms.

Your GPA can matter in any field. It will be most relevant when looking for a job directly out of college. If you are worried about a less than stellar GPA, you are not required to list it. There are plusses and minuses to this. If a candidate is graduating from college, but he/she does not list a GPA, employers may prefer to see a couple other things, extensive extracirricular activities or additional work experience, especially work experience relevant to the position you are applying to. Even if you leave the GPA off of your resume, some companies will request that information, plus a full transcript to prove you have the knowledge and qualifications they are looking for. Other companies will require that you take a test to determine the capabilities you bring to the table.
