I like to make tee shirts for myself and want to buy tee shirts directly from either Hanes of FOTL. Is this possible to do without owning a business? Any idea how I would go about doing this or the cost?

Buying from Target and Walmart costs me about $5.00 per shirt. Not bad since tee shirts usually run like $20, but I know I can get them cheaper buying in bulk.

I want to buy about 50 at a time...

You can't purchase directly from the manufacture unless you are a reseller yourself.

It has to do with how the distribution chain works in this country. As a reseller, you pay something called an inventory tax, and therefore you don't pay sales tax when the purchase is made.

In order to make this kind of purchase, you have to be in business, and in possession of a federal tax number, or "federal tax ID number."

Also, a T-shirt manufacturer would only sell a minimum number of shirts that wouldn't be practical for you. I think that for Hanes, their minimum order is 1,000 or 10,000 shirts.

Probably if you purchased thousands at a time.

Find their manufacturer, who has a sales outlet in your area.
