Well, unless you are extremely smart, forget vets, they are smarter than doctors and it is harder to get into veterinary school than regular colleges of medicine so that leaves:
1. Animal rescuers- pay is probably so-so, but you have to bear a lot of hardship- a lot of animals are abused or half dead- stuff they usually dont show on tv when viewing their shows.
2. Zookeeper- they make good money- there are college programs and degrees -
3. Veterinarian assistant- again schooling is mandatory- I believe it is only a one year program. Pay ? I don't know but has to be a little better than the average because you need to have medical and technical abilities.
4. As a part time job, you can be a foster parent to abused animals-- you would babysit or mother animals until they are healthy enough to be adopted- pay is the best--- LOTS OF LOVE.

I would also suggest being a vet. You can get a degree in veterinarian studies or something like that, or you could go into zoology and work for a zoo. Also, you can be more specific and study primates or marine biology in college. It just depends on what you want to do. For now, you could volunteer at a shelter :)

The US Dept. of Labor has a great web site for researching occupations. You might want to check this out to do some research: http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm
