Hello,

I'm having a problem with my former landlord. In late June, I informed him that I would be leaving August 15. I had a $825 security deposit (a full month's rent) that was to be returned to me. My landlord recently moved out of the country and has had some delays in getting the money to me. He said the apartment was fine and he would be mailing the check - in September, October and now November. He is always very cordial on the phone and a very laid-back guy, but I have a thousand things that I would like to do with the money right now and I'm not sure how to best follow up.

He is building his own resort in Mexico and has sporadic access to phone and e-mail. I'm not aware of an executor in the States that he handling his other properties for him.

How do you recommend that I proceed?

I am currently a MA and it is nice as a beginning point but of course I'd like to pursue bigger things. I dont want to be a RN but was considering becoming a LPN and then getting a Master's in HealthCare Administration and Management.

What other things should I consider?

I currently live with 2 other roomates in an apartment. All 3 of our names are signed on the lease. I plan to move out pretty soon (can't stand it there cuz it's gotten pretty ghetto) and those 2 are going to stay there. They are able to afford it on their own. The lease says its a year lease, but it also says if we're to move out, to give at least a 60 day notice (regardless if the year is up or not), so I'm thinking it's not one of those year leases thats hard to get out of. Anyways, am I able to take my name off the lease easily so I'm not liable if those 2 have problems paying the rent? Do I still have to give that 60 day notice? The apartment isn't being vacated, it's only me moving out.
