I've had the most amazing calls from people I can barely understand. I have spelled out my name and address only to receive a totally fictitious name written on any correspondence, and I'm not only talking about Indian call centres, I'm talking about British accents!
A person who stutters usually only has trouble with a few letters and is generally able to talk slowly and clearly. They manage extremely well under all but the most stressful circumstances. I see no earthly reason why they should not be allowed to work in call centres. In fact they would most likely raise the standard because of their clear level-headedness and clarity of tone.

Why not in this day and age if you didn't give someone a job just because they stuttered they could probably go against that as discrimination. My husband has a stutter and finds it very difficult to talk on the phone especially if he has to give his date of birth or address. I think if he applied for a job at a call centre he would get so frustrated he would have to pack it in.
It would really depend on how bad a person's stutter is and if they could cope with it all.
I doubt if customers would mind that much either because half the time when you phone a call centre it's based in India and you can't understand a half of what they say. So maybe hearing a british accent would make all the difference, who knows?

No. This person cannot perform the job duties.
However, many call centers have secondary responsibilities that CAN be accomplished by someone that stutters.
Some call centers also provide customer service through a chat room. As long as this person can type proficiently, they may be able to complete this task.
Actually, they would be able to service more customers at the same time. You can only talk to one customer on the phone, but you can maintain 3 or 4 chat windows with 3 or 4 customers at the same time.

I had a stutter as a child and young teenager....
All this politically correct crap!!!!
I understand it's not my fault i had a stutter but why should I have been employed in a job working on the telephone if i could not provide the communication skills needed for such a role.
Of course people with stutters should be allowed to work in this environment but it shouldn't be a problem if they are rejected on the basis that they are not capable of doing the job efficiently. Unfortunately our society still isn't ready to understand other people's differences/problems, nor does it posses the patience to deal with them.

I can see why it wouldn't be viable simply because a lot of people who call into call centres are so abusive at the best of times. So for the sake of the person's sanity who has the stutter find another job!

yes they should. they should not be violated just because they have a stutter.
one of the main reasons for stuttering is nerves so they shouldnt be singled out.
personally , if i was on the other end of the phone i wouldnt mind because no one is perfect and everyone has faults, we just cant choose them

i wonder if said person was interviewed before (s)he got the job or did they win the position by collecting crisp wrappers!!!
no really, i think it would be a little irritating but not as much as someone who speaks poor english (when any!) or a stupid person who, you know when they are talking to you that they have no idea what you asked them about and irritate you to the point of suicidal thoughts

I worked in retail management for several years. I think that people who cannot or do not speak understandably should not work in a service-oriented industry. However, I was reprimanded twice for refusing to hire someone on that basis.
