My Girlfriend has a £3,000 debt on credit cards and is getting to the stage where she can only pay off the interest each month and a 'card protection' and 'insurance' fee, so the £3,000 deficit remains (and gets worse).

I help her out now and again and she switches cards every year so they are interest free. Are there any helplines/ government bodies available for advice on how to combat such problems? Any Advice ? Thanks

(PS, please take this seriously, no "she should find a richer man" or "she should stop buying clothes". After all, these were my first two suggestions to her!)

We had a new boss start work six months ago and they nothing of the job. However, he has been trying to eliminate certain people, me being one. I've been with the company for over 15 years now. In my PEP which is an evaluation they mentioned not feeling safe around me and they fear their safety and the safety of my co-workers over rumors that were not true and found to be not true. I was looking for a laywer on this. What should I do?

Thanks

I work for someone who has caused 5 other people to quit. My company begged me to stay on and I agreed to help them out. Now my boss has set an arbitrary promotion standard so that I am eligible by regulation, but not according to his guidelines. Out of sheer laziness he has refused to review packets on an individual basis. I am exceedingly irritated, as one might imagine. In all likelihood, I will not actually take any revenge, but this is my only outlet to vent.

One of the Lads at work thinks the higher tax band starts after £30,500 I thought it was more myself, but if this is true if I carry on working like I am, I could easily hit that and more. So how does it work if I go over that do I just get taxed 40% and that’s it or is there away around it?, as I’m staff, I get no allowances for anything I don’t have a company car etc????

I wrote to the other party's insurers, 3 weeks ago, confirming that I accept their injury compensation offer. I've not heard anything since, and I'm wondering how long they normally take to post the cheque off - anyone know?

I have now had enough of debt collection and thinking of changing careers. I thought the only natural career progression would be credit control management. Would this be a good career move or do you think I should go for something completely different? By the way, I have studied up to 'A' levels, grades are not very good, and have an interest in working with figures and computers. I am in my mid 30s and live in England.

Thanks

If you earn above £97 a week (the 'earnings threshold') and up to £645 per week you pay 11 per cent of this amount as 'Class 1' NICs
If you also pay one per cent of earnings above £645 a week as Class 1 NICs.

My question is: are these amounts (£97 and £645) earnings AFTER income tax has been deducted, or BEFORE income tax has been deducted?

A friend was interested in a job (local authority)...after the original post holder left, she was told the vacancy would be advertised in the local press. She's just been told that the post was filled by someone internally - with no experience of this area of work.
Is this legal??
Acas say it is....I keep thinking I've read something somewhere which say's it's not!

I am 24 years old and I work in a boring 9-5 office job Monday - Friday. This I can handle but every Friday night I venture into town centre and get drunk in nightclubs, I am starting to worry that this could be a bad habit, I still enjoy it but not as much as I used to. Thoughts?
