1. huge amount of corruption
2. millions of inefficient programs
3. billions spent on pensions
4. war in Iraq is draining us

the list could go on forever but the main reason is that they raise taxes because they 'need' the money and we let them get away with it.

Depends how much the government wants to spend. The Iraq war has cost billions. Also, more people doesn't necessarily mean more cash raised. Tax breaks for the rich have been used to make friends with the more powerful parts of society, but that means someone else has got to either foot the bill, or go without public services (usually poor and/or black people).

We have been dficit spending. which means Buschs smaller government is spnding more than they are raising in revenues ie taxes. The tax cut he gave us. The surplus we had when he came in office has all been spent. We have to pay the piper sooner or later or inflation and devaluation of the dollar will ensue. If we pay as we go then we will not have to take drastic steps later. There is a lot of waste in Government. I believe it is in the definition somewhere.
